OT : Canzano's Article With THE Booth Official
Quote:
From The Oregonian
By John Canzano
Canzano: Official wasn't shown all replays shown on TV
T he seventh threatening telephone call at Gordon Riese's home came a few minutes after eight o'clock on Monday morning. It was from an Oklahoma fan who told Riese, the Pacific-10 Conference replay official from Saturday's Ducks-Sooners game, he was going to fly to Portland, find the family home, and kill Riese and his wife.
"I called the police," said Riese, 64, "then, I unplugged the phone."
|
Apparently the booth official was put in a tight spot when he wasn't given the replays in time and was not given all the necessary angles, and now admits he blew the call..
Don't post entire articles, it's against the rules. Just quote a small portion and then post a link.

He is being pretty hard on himself... he just based his call on the tape he was provided. It would have been wrong to do otherwise.

Why can't the officials and Tom Hansen just say we had tech problems? Doesn't sound like it was this guy's fault so what's the big deal?

I feel sorry for the guy, and, I don't understand why there's not a regular, plain-old television feed to him. Turn the sound down, sure, but it seems to me the fans should never have better camera angles than the guy making the call. I mean really, if you're gonna bother having instant replay at all....

Crapzano stirring the pot like usual..nothing new here. Not much of a story here IMO..not this officials fault.

Yeah WTH, the officials don't get every angle in the replay booth? What kind of screwed up thinking led to that? Someone wire the replay booth to get ABC/FSN/ESPN.

Re: OT : Canzano's Article With THE Booth Official
even if they had said they had technical difficulties, i still think OU fans would still want to rip some heads off. and that is lame that he didnt get all the stuff he needed, and how convenient that none of this info got released last night on all the AP Reports.

I'm not sure how exactly it is done in football, but in the NBA, the refs have direct contact with the TV truck. When it's time to replay a play, they just get on the headsets and talk to the producer in the home teams TV truck. If for some reason there is a problem, they can talk to the visiting teams' TV truck. I believe it's a special crew seperate from the tv crews in football. The NBA has gotten it down to a science.

Let it go. Much like Seahawk fan has to let go, Sooner fan does as well.
It is a sport. Mistakes are made. Move on.
I would love to see just one of these clowns that makes a death threat spend a coupla days incarcerated. They would be crying like a little girl, afraid of "shower-time". Takes a lot of guts to threaten a 64 year old man over the phone.
Losers, on the field and off.

Thank you. I think we've all been on the losing end, and perhaps the winning end, of terrible calls in the past. No one likes it, but hey - it's the risk, when you play a game that's officiated by imperfect humans, depending on fallible equipment, working within sometimes non-specific rules. The bottom line for me is that Oklahoma only had to stop Oregon from scoring a touchdown in the last 1:20 - and they couldn't. And then, they had the ball with :45 left and couldn't score. That's two chances. It's not like the refs decided an actual score with the call.

Yep, Canzano interviewing the guy involved in the biggest story in college football today is "stirring the pot". Not to mention he actually found out what feed the guy saw in the booth.
LOL

And it did what good? All that joke of a columnist did was make a old man feel worse about his mistake...pretty pointless IMO. The officials were reprimanded, the stories over. Crapzano needs to let it die as do everyone else.
There is nothing else that can be done...there is no way the win is taken from Oregon or the loss from OK record..think of the precedent that would set.
