Juan Dixon: Shooting MACHINE! (MB)
OK, so a bit of tongue-in-cheekness.
Nonetheless, it's encouraging, at the very least........

Thursday night our company held its annual picnic out at the Trail Blazers' practice facility in Tualatin. This has been held at various sights during the past few years, and they always do a great job with the events. Having it at the team's practice site was a great decision, and with the two basketball courts, shooting hoops was an option for staff members. However, one of the hoops was occupied the entire time, and no one was about to ask this gentleman to leave.
Juan Dixon, who I've talked about several times in the past couple of weeks, was back at the facility for his evening workout. He had played in the morning pick-up games, and now was back to shoot jumper after jumper. So, while people mingled around him, ate barbeque, listened to music, and conversed, Juan continued to work. There's an automatic rebounding machine that fires passes out to the perimeter, so that players can work alone. Juan wore this thing out last night. The machine not only rebounds and passes, it counts your makes and misses, and even gives you your shooting percentage. During the time I was watching Dixon he was 46 for 50 from the top of the key area(see photo). He didn't even seem to notice the people around him..........

Re: Juan Dixon: Shooting MACHINE! (MB)
This is not good news. Dixon is a streaky shooter. The last thing he needs is to think he can shoot. Juan should have been practicing all summer on ball handling and defense.

He could be the best scorer we have. People write him off because he's too short for a shooting guard. But I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he ended up being the starting shooting guard this season.

That, to me, would be extremely short sighted on the part of the coaching staff. While Dixon might be the best option right now...although I think Roy probably is a better overall player...What the staff should be concentrating on is the future of the franchise. I can't see any team making a push for the championship with Juan Dixon as their starting shooting guard.
Hopefully Nate and his staff will look beyond this season and to the future.
IMO Dixon would be best served coming into the game when the Blazers are down and seeing if he is on that night...sort of like "the microwave" back in the 80's. If not then pull him out because he is a defensive liability and stops the offense dead in it's tracks when he gets the ball.

I disagree. Juan isn't that old (what is he, 27?). He can easily be part of the future. He could play "the Microwave" role for this team for example. On a team this poor, theres no reason to write off a possible talent just because we might have a better better future player at that position. If Webster really can excel at the 3, I think Juan could make a big difference this year. Starting this season because he's better then Roy (if true) wouldn't hurt at all in that case. Just gotta make sure he isn't taking the majority of the minutes (and I doubt he will, Nate's all about D and while Dixon tries, he'll always be outmatched at the 2 due to size).

Re: Juan Dixon: Shooting MACHINE! (MB)
Regardless of who is the future, who starts, etc... Juan is setting a hell of a good example for the young guys. And anything he can do to improve his game improves the team and sets the bar higher for the young guys to earn minutes.
No whiners allowed.

Re: Juan Dixon: Shooting MACHINE! (MB)
90% from the free throw line, that's pretty good.
GREAT work ethic
