technically, Oregon Territory included Idaho (and initially BC, Alberta, Montana and Wyoming.). It should've been made into it's own big *** state. It is often associated with President Polk too. He is said to have said "54'40 or fight" (which would've made the US border, at least in relation to the Oregon Territory, at the 54th parrallel). But he actually didn't say it.
54'40 was the southern border of what was then, Russian America (Alaska at the time was "russian" property).
after they settled with the 49th, this is what Oregon Territory looked like

then when Oregon/Washington was seperated (I still don't get why we didn't get south of the Snake River)
This was around the time when the Gov of Oregon (territory) was George Law Curry (who I'm related to, so yes that makes me better than all you).
then when we became a state, this is how it was laid out.
Interesting note. Oregon's "birthday" is celebrated on Valentines day. But technically, it should've been the 13th, but the President at the time took too long to get to it, so it was delayed a day.
here's what happened after Washington decided to gravey train our statehood.
Idaho became it's own territory until 1891 (or 90).
And thats the rest of the story.
