I really hope the Blazers start Webster at shooting guard.

I have given it much thought. To me it makes sense in so many ways.

1. He would have great chemistry with Jack. They were both drafted together. Ones a playmaker one is a shooter. One is tall one is short etc etc.

2. He would play next to Miles. Miles plays to the level of the comp defensively. So Miles would draw the tough assignment while still allowing Webster to face starters so he can get acclimate to the league.

3. Who else can shoot? The only other shooter in the lineup is Dixon and Dixon and Jack are too small. Adding a shooter would help loosen things up for Randolph and Miles and it would make for predictable offensive rebound fatter for Pryz and Jamal.

4. Roy is a good fit off the bench. He wont complain and he is versatile enough to play two spots. Roy can also play with anyone. Jack and Dixon are too small to play with each other. Dixon and Webster lack the play making skills together. With Roy on the bench its easier to keep the backcourt chemistry. If the Blazers win anything with Roy it wont be with Roy starting. He can be a great sixth man on a championship team.. not a starter. Furthermore Webster is a tough assignment that a starter from another team would have to face. Chasing Webster all over the court would wear them out so Roy and Dixon can come in to finish them off with high energy.

5. Webster is the most likely of the Blazers young players to be hurt by a lack of minns. Great shooters miss shots. They miss a lot of shots. Missing shots in spots duty makes a player feel like a bust and its tough to recover from that. If you give Webster more minns he will also have time to do another thing great shooters do... make shots . It would be nice to give Webster a vote of confidence right now. Forcing him to fight Outlaw and Miles for minns at SF would set him back some. Give a simple job as a starter playing next to the better guys on the roster and he should do well.

6. Outlaw would still have a chance to develop. If Outlaw has to fight Webster, Miles, and Lafrentz for minns he will be lost. Lets remove Webster from the SF rotation.

7. It works in NBA 2k7. I was 1-5 on superstar and about to face the Mavs. I moved Webster to the starting lineup and almost beat the best team in the West. Webster was 3-3 from the 3 point line after barely finding a rhythm off the bench in previous games. If I would have put Miles on Stackhouse instead of Webster I would have won.

Re: I really hope the Blazers start Webster at shooting guard.

I'm sorry, but he's only in his second year and only shot 40% last year. He can't play defense very well, and moving without the ball is a challenge. I don't see Nate starting him at shootin guard. I'm a huge Martell fan and am looking forward to the day he establishes himself a star in the league, but right now? Let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

Re: I really hope the Blazers start Webster at shooting guard.

Here are the reasons it wouldn't surprise me:

- Brandon Roy will probably see time at the PG position with Juan Dixon, switching guys on defense. That will lessen the blow of throwing a midget out there at shooting guard.

- Roy's possibility at the 1 is enhanced due to Dickau's recovery from surgery.

- Jarrett Jack, however, is still the best PG on the team right now, so he'll start. To keep the Dixon/Roy pairing alive, then, Webster could move to the starting lineup.

Additionally, Webster's outside shooting could really help that first unit, as Jack and Miles aren't especially dangerous from 3.

Re: I really hope the Blazers start Webster at shooting guard.

I am hoping that Roy puts a strangle hold on the position for the next 12 years. The four years of college and his maturity level I think put him ahead of Martell. I would also like to see Roy get very limited minutes at point. I am hoping that Jack and eventually Sergio can handle that position.

I would like to see Martell be the long range bomber/instant offense guy off of the bench this season. If he can play the three that would be great. In my mind I have no use for Miles, and think that after this season we will have no use for Dixon. But I would hate to see Dixon getting the majority of minutes when we need to develop Roy and Martell.

I love how people are portraying this game as reality...it's like hey I traded for Kevin Garnett and Shaq, plus Steve Nash and guess what, the Blazers were the NBA champions in my 2K7 League, if we do something like that...come on give me a break, its a game. reality starts in a few weeks!

Re: I really hope the Blazers start Webster at shooting guard.

I think Roy will win the position battle in camp. If Webster should be starting anywhere, it should be at the 3, assuming we can ever get some kind of value for Miles.

I would LOVE to see Roy at SG and Webster at SF at the beginning of the season just to see if it works. Dixon is too small to play SG for anything more than a shooter role off the bench.

1. He would have great chemistry with Jack.
They were both drafted together.
Outlaw and Nedzad were drafted together.

Ones a playmaker one is a shooter.
you could use that argument for almost any PG/SG.

One is tall one is short
LOL

2. He would play next to Miles.
I think most people would call that a negative

3. Who else can shoot?
The only other shooter in the lineup is Dixon and Dixon and Jack are too small. Adding a shooter would help loosen things up for Randolph and Miles and it would make for predictable offensive rebound fatter for Pryz and Jamal.
your only good argument IMO... except that Martell has to PROVE that he can shoot. He hasn't yet.

4. Roy is a good fit off the bench.
no one knows that for sure.

5. Webster is the most likely of the Blazers young players to be hurt by a lack of minns.

Simple job? Starting SG is not simple. Especially on defense.

6. Outlaw would still have a chance to develop.

Let's remove Outlaw from the rotation.

7. It works in NBA 2k7.
This one is why I decided to respond. Saying that it works in a game is a joke, or at least it should be. Do you think we should all go to the zoo and kick the turtles? (SMB, btw)

Easily the MOST important and most overlooked reason. Well done.

Although when I played with Webster as my SG, he kept running around aimlessly, jacking up wild three pointers from nearly half court. He would rarely pass and played no defense. So...I don't know.

Why not? Magic Johnson was a 6’9 PG.

I’m not even saying Webster should get more minns then Roy. He has better chemistry with the starting lineup. I’m sure most of us would have loved for Miles to have been traded for decent value but NBA GMs aren’t as stupid as I thought they were so unfortunately Miles is the 2nd best player on the team, and until he fecks up he is the sf and he should get at least 35 minns there.

Re: I really hope the Blazers start Webster at shooting guard.

For what it's worth, 2k, I agree with you. Perhaps sadly (though I'm not particularly bummed about it) Dixon is still one of the best players on this team. He also seems to have a good attitude, some valuable leadership qualities, and as a two guard, is relatively slick with the ball. Teaming him with Roy seems absolutely natural.

And, I'm inclined to think that by next year and perhaps as soon as even just the first few months this year, Roy will be the best guard on the roster, and, as such, should perhaps be starting -- though I'll note that there are all sorts of examples of good, even championship teams that didn't necessarily start their best five players.

Regardless, I'm pretty well at the point where I'm thinking Dixon should A) still be getting at least some minutes and B) probably he really shouldn't be in the backcourt with anyone but Roy.

And, not that I'd suggest this for a starting line-up, I'd be interested to see this group on the floor together:

PG -- Roy
SG -- Dixon
SF -- Webster
PF -- Miles
C -- Randolph/Magloire/Pryzbilla/LaFrentz

It'd be a pretty fast line-up, wouldn't give up very much size, and has several guys who can score well in different ways. And keep in mind that many of Miles' best games have come with him playing at the four....

Re: I really hope the Blazers start Webster at shooting guard.

What I would absolutely love is to see Roy become a true point guard. Although it's probably highly unlikely, the thought of a Roy-Webster backcourt running with Durant, Aldridge and Przybilla gives me goosebumps.

Or you can change that to Roy-Webster-Whoever-Aldridge-Oden
