Re: Blazers Nuts & Bolts Preview (TrueHoop)
I agree with him that there is something funny about the Darius Miles situation. Maybe I'm just being overly optimistic, but it seems there is a possibility that they are close to making some kind of deal and don't want him around the team. And since Darius wants out, he is cooperating by not saying anything and maybe working out for some general managers to show his legs are OK. I know this is entirely speculative; maybe he just has some kind of weird injury but why doesn't anyone talk about it?

I don't necessarily agree with him on the management being "Slippery". He talked about the fact that management sold the young guys like Telfair, Kryapa, and Monia, but he fails to mention the fact that they were all draft picks of the deposed GM. Considering Monia isn't even in the NBA at this point, and Telfair and Kryapa were not the types of players that are going to get you wins in this league (IMO), I don't see this as being a slippery management, but one who wants to turn the page. There are still a few more pages to turn yet (Lemarcus Aldridge was drafted for a reason).

Re: Blazers Nuts & Bolts Preview (TrueHoop)
Pretty good (p)review.
I disagree, though, that Miles's situation is draining energy from the team. His absence is something that the players and team as a whole just have to get over... if he comes back, he will need to fit into the scheme that everyone else will (hopefully) have bought into. Once the losing starts, the buy-in will be more difficult, but hopefully Nate is more up to the task this year than he was last year.
I also don't find any relevance to the management's "slipperiness". They haven't said they are staying in Portland long-term? They haven't given evidence of a GM search? Perhaps both true statements, but I think that they have done better work in adding excellent prospects... the communication stuff is all just hot air without that.

Canzano has said repeatedly that Miles' knees are a real problem. Since he gets paid regardless of his condition, Miles has no incentive to rehab, and chose to decline the Blazers' invitation to workout with Bill Bayno this summer.
The longer this goes on, the greater the chance of a buyout of Miles' contract. Keeping Miles away from this young team is a good idea.

I agree about Telfair, Khryapa and Monia. Those guys were mid to late round draft picks and pawning them off to help land better talent makes a lot more sense then trying to build your franchise around mid-level talent.
