I didn't get a chance to see Game 7 of the Mavs-Kings series but after hearing the Mavs had won, I couldn't help but think that on the miniscule chance that the Mavs beat the Spurs (microscopic IMO) that history will forever put a * right next to the Mavs name.

That series took a complete 180 with the injury to Webber. A series the Mavs were sure to be blown out in suddenly they had a fighting chance at.

In your estimation, does future sportswriters/history add an asterisk next to the Mavs name (assuming they advance and win it all)?

No, injuries happen. Did the Pistons' first championship get an asterisk attached due to Magic Johnson's injury?

If the Mavericks win, current fans may note that they got a fairly fortunate toss of the dice, but history will forget within a few years, let alone a decade or more.

Of course, the fact that the Mavs won a title at all might be forgotten in 10 or so years by most fans outside of Texas (and perhaps NJ or Detroit) unless they are somehow able to win it all more than once.....

Interestingly, though, if there were to be some "asterisk" because of the injury to Chris Webber, whaddaya bet the fact that those same Mavs barely made it out of the first round against a Blazer team with 3 significant injuries to starters wouldn't even make a blip on the radar screen of history.

They shouldn't put an asterisk next to it. That would be stupid. The Mavs just got a lucky break, that's all. Nothing should be taken from them like that, they won 4 games against the Kings.
