I think it's happened a total of 2 times.

1969-70 Red Holzman, New York COY,
Team won title and 1969-70 - Willis Reed, New York MVP

1995-96 Phil Jackson, Chicago COY and the 1995-96 - Michael Jordan, Chicago MVP

The Bulls (Jackson, Jordan) did it once (in 1995-96). It was the only year that PJ won the CoTY.

It also happened in like 64-65 with the Celtics (Auerbach, Russell).

Those're the only teams that I can remember that happening.

For the 76-77 Blazers, they didn't win either MVP (Kareem) nor CoTY (Houston's coach won it, I think).

I actually stopped looking before 69-70, just because I got tired of looking. But you are correct about the celtics in 64-5.

Yah, the Houston coach, Tom Nissalke, Houston won it. The year after Walton won the MVP, Moses Malone won it. Woops...I guess we shoulda kept him...
