OT: Rasheed Ejected From Home Opener
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=261101008
Quote:
Wallace, notorious for bantering with officials and reacting demonstratively to their calls, might have trouble adjusting to a new NBA point of emphasis.
He was called for a foul late in the first quarter. When he reacted with his eyes wide, mouth open in disbelief and his arms out at his sides, official Ken Mauer whistled him for a technical.
Official Luis Grillo ejected Wallace with a second technical after twice motioning -- with his finger across his neck -- for him to stop complaining about a call against teammate Mohammed.
Players are fined $1,000 for each of their first five technicals, an amount that increases by $500 for each five after that, capped by a $2,500 penalty for each one starting with the 16th. A one-game suspension also comes at that point and for every other technical thereafter.
No wonder it drew a response from Wallace, who earned 16 technicals last season and has said the point of emphasis is just "another 'Sheed Wallace rule." Wallace broke his own league record with 41 technical fouls during the 2000-01 season while playing for Portland, and once threatened an official after a game and was suspended for seven games.
|
I wonder if he will get close to his record high of technical fouls in a season. Only time will tell.

Re: OT: Rasheed Ejected From Home Opener
Go Sheed! This kind of stuff cracks me up. Of course, I'm not expecting him to lead my team to a championship or anything.
I hope the new rule is actually used to cut the whining to refs, and isn't just an "anti-Sheed" rule. While sometimes amusing, I'm pretty tired of seeing the Kobes, MJ's, and Stocktons of the last 20 years argue calls incessantly.

Does that math strike anyone as odd? With $500 increments, a $2500 cap would be reached after 8, not 16.

Re: OT: Rasheed Ejected From Home Opener
Rasheed is an idiot, no doubt about it. Look, we get it, you're demonstrative, emotional (emo) and all that good stuff. However, you know the rules now, constrain yourself. You're a grown man, not a little kid. If you can't hone in your emotions constructively with a primal "Let's Go" and utilize that fervor to help your team rather than complain incessantly, just save us all the grief and retire. Please.
I am all for the new rule.

Re: OT: Rasheed Ejected From Home Opener
Sheed is no doubt going to be in trouble with the new rules. The fines and suspension are going to add up quickly. As a pistons fan I actually don't even mind the new rule because it does get kinda embarrasing to watch Tayshaun Prince and Sheed cry over every foul called against them.

The memo lists four behaviors that will result in a quick whistle: Profanity, unprofessional overt actions, attacking an official's ability or integrity and continuous criticism.
|
As long as the players can have a civilized conversation with the refs without getting a tech I think its a good rule.

Phooey.
The "Emo *****es" here are the refs. The NBA needs some refs with thicker skins and smaller egos.
Better yet, eliminate the whole concept of "technical fouls". Seriously.....do you know anybody who watches NBA games to see the refs?

thats a fallacy. This isn't about going to the games watch the refs, it's about having the players play the game, and not make fools of themselves (or in some caes, have no re-course for the onslaught of verbal abuse they take DURING the game).
