Zach for POW?
With his third straight 30/10 performance I was thinking Zach should be a lock for Western Conference POW. Gilbert Arenas and Joe Johnson are also putting up some crazy numbers and leading their teams to some wins. They're fighting it out for Eastern Conference POW. In the West, Yao Ming looks like Zach's biggest competition this week. Yao had a HUGE game tonight - 35 pts, 17 rebs and 7 blks. Of course, it was against the Knicks so there should be some sort of derating factor. Something like, multiply all your stats by 0.7 to get your TrueStats.

Re: Zach for POW?
I can't think of anyone else that would deserve it more than he does.

Re: Zach for POW?
I don't see how Zach CAN'T be Western Conference POW. In spite of Yao's huge game, Zach's had the better week, overall.
I'm just pissed I missed out on him in the fantasy league now ...

Does POW run Monday - Sunday? It's been so long since a Blazer was seriuosly considered, I've forgotten? If so, both Zach and Yao have one more game to add to their resumes. So far, Zach has the better numbers, but Yao is coming on strong - and his team is 3-0 this week compared to the 2-1 Blazers. Assuming the award runs Mon-Sun, Sunday's match-ups are key. Zach will be going against Dirk and the Mavs and Yao will be in Miami in a head-to-head match-up with Shaq. If Zach has another impressive game, I think the award is his. If he has a below average game and Yao puts up big numbers against Shaq, he could pull it out.
Just a little side drama to add to all the excitement (as if a 27-point comeback victory isn't enough for one week).

Re: Zach for POW?
On a (somewhat) related note, does anyone know the team record for FT% or FTs made in a season?
If Zach continues to get to the line this frequently, and keeps making the other team pay for sending him, his critics may have to retire the "low efficiency scorer" argument.

Well, the competition for POW just got a little closer, and as I feared it may have swung in Yao's favor. Yao had another huge game tonight (34 pts on 11-19 FG and 12-13 FT, and 14 reb). Plus, he totally outplayed Shaq (15 pts and 10 reb) in a Rockets win over the Heat. Although Zach had a decent game by last year's standards, 20 pts on 8-22 FG and 3-4 FT and 9 reb, it's a far cry from his previous three games. So, Yao finished the week with his two best games and his team went 4-0, compared to 2-2 for the Blazers.
For the week:
Zach = 30.5ppg, 11.0 rpg, 1.25 apg, 0.75 bpg, 49.4 FG%, 89.4 FT%
Yao = 29.0ppg, 11.25 rpg, 2.25 apg, 2.5 bpg, 55.7 FG%, 90.3 FT%
So, Zach averaged 1.5 more ppg, but Yao edges him out in every other category (including, surprisingly FT%). Throw in the fact that the Rockets went 4-0, and the way Yao dominated Shaq tonight will be fresh in everyone' mind, and I think Yao may end up beating out Zach for POW.
Oh well, get 'em next week Zach.

Re: Zach for POW?
Zach is playing amazing this year. If the Blazers are over .500 by All-Star break and Z-Bo doesn't make the all-star team it will be a mockery of the All-Star game system. Z-Bo has been playing amazing this year and I look forward in watching him every night. Missing Roy will obviously hurt us while he's out, but Z-Bo can carry the load and our youngins can carry the load. J.J. is really impressing me this season!

Zach's best week ever comes the same week that Yao fullfills his promise as the No. 1 pick to dominate every game and has HIS best week ever.
Tough break for Zach. I know how much this kind of stuff means to him.

Re: Zach for POW?
Yao didnt lead his Rockets back from a 27 point deficit like Zach did for us. But ya, Yao will probably get the award.

He didn't have to. He never let his team get down by 27 by going scoreless over the first 1.5 quarters of a game. Yao led his team to a 4-0 record and a 22 point thrashing of the defending champs in their building. As good as Zach's week was, and as much as I admire his improved work ethic, I'd have to give the edge to Yao on the better record and the way he dominated Shaq last night.

while I do agree that Yao will probably get it (and it's not like it'd be undeserved), I think the fact that Zach (of all players) averaging 30-10 (or right near) after having a relatively dissapointing season last year..and coming off the slow return of Amare and Kenyon, does resonate with some. Doesn't mean he'll win it, but it does seem impressive that he's coming back and averaging such insane #'s. Yao SHOULD be doing these kinds of #'s, no one expected Zach to.
But congrats to Yao if he wins it (as in reality, it's a meaningless award).
