What gives?
Today's attendance: 15,000
Last game's: 14,000
Wednesday: 17,000
Home Opener: 20,000
This is pathetic. There was so much publicity of the fans who said they would come back, if the Blazers were character players, who just played hard. I don't see that happening. They aren't only playing hard, but they are also winning (4-3 isn't exactly bad). What's more, they aren't getting blown out and are in every game. I thought I woud see a gradual rise in attendance this year from the last, but I don't see any improvement at all.
What gives?

Re: What gives?
What happened is the sheep (fans) barfed up the same BS that the local paper did (after they read it like the mindless sheep they are).
Local media says, "Blazers are bad people, Jailblazers, boycott them, evil!!!"
Local bandwagon fans read/hear local media and say, "Blazers are bad people, Jailblazers, boycott them, evil!!!"
Well, Blazers "turn it around" but the sheep are still just that, mindless followers of whatever they get shoved down their throats for years on end.
The truth is, what drove fans away was losing, and underachieving. Now that we're winning, and overachieving, well, those mindless sheep don't realize it yet. I bet if you went out and just walked around asking your average oregonian reading portlander how the Blazers are doing this season, I'm sure you'll hear something like, "oh, horrible, they suck worse than last year."
It's gonna take wins. Wins for a good long time. Don't expect to see the turnout at the RG get better until the Blazers have a full successful season, and success at least partway into the season after that. There's a lot of deprogramming that has to be done and it takes wins and time.

Re: What gives?
Well I for one can say that fans are comin back...my friend was telling me it was the first time in years he went out to his car to check the score of the Blazer game at halftime at one of the OSAA Football games...
like Hap said...it takes time.

Re: What gives?
most casual fans only go if they're contenders or at least competative...they don't like watching rebuilding.
Personally, I love it.

Re: What gives?
Those numbers actually look pretty good compared to the games I went to last year. I don't think I was at a single game last year where the "announced" attendance was above 14,000. It was usually in the 12,000 - 13,000 range with actual butts in seats less than 10,000 every time. I went to games where the entire upper bowl was pretty much empty after everyone moved down to set in the empty lower bowl seats.
One game we had a large group of 20 people with 300 level tickets. Before the game even started a Blazer employee asked if we'd like to move down. We said sure and he swapped our 20 300 level tickets for 20 in the 100 level (I think that game was on TV and they wanted it to look like there were people in the stands rather than >50% empty seats).

Re: What gives?
Maybe I was a little too dramatic, but I expected atleast a little improvement from last year, considering the weekend games, and the "good" competition.
IIRC, the Blazers do not have rights to the most expensive seats in the Garden. I wonder what kind of revenue that the organization as a whole will turn over, considering the poor attendance for the first few games. Whatever happened to PA and his losing $100M over the next couple of years? Will he buy the arena again?

Re: What gives?
They did sell out the home opener, which is already one more sell-out than last season. So the progress is there, albeit in small doses.
It'll take time. But if the team turns it around and makes a playoff push, the fans will be back.

Oddly enough, I'll be in Cleveland in a couple of weeks to catch a Browns game.
