Re: Zach denied Player-of-the-week, NBA gives it to Yao
The NBA didn't deny Zach anything. His unspectaular performance in a losing cause last night cost him the award.
And, they didn't "give" Yao anything. He earned the award and was the most deserving.
Take off those rose colored glasses and objectively compare what each player did for the entire week. As Masbee said, it would be hard to not vote for Yao. Zach had a great week, but Yao's was better. Simple as that.

I agree whole-heartedly.
But it still doesn't mean the NBA won't look for any excuse possible to avoid acknowledging anything positive coming from this team. It may be way too "conspiracy theorist" for some, but I still firmly believe us dropping to #4 (as low as we could possibly go) in last Summer's lottery was not a fluke. Stern hates the Portland Trail Blazers, pure and simple.

Re: Zach denied Player-of-the-week, NBA gives it to Yao
And don't think for a second the league wasn't doing absolute backflips in David Stern's office about the fact that they could give Player of the Week honors to an international player from the biggest market in the world.
Zach could have had 55, 25, 10 and helped the Blazers to a blowout victory last night and he wouldn't have sniffed the award.

Have you visited nba.com today, or recently. For the past two weeks Brandon Roy's photo was featured as the lead in to their rookie rankings page (he's still ranked No. 1). Today, the shot changed to one of LaMarcus Aldridge. Seriously, if David Stern has any residual anti-Blazers bias, the NBA is doing a good job of hiding it. Stern may hold grudges against certain players (like Sheed), but I don't see him holding the Blazers down now that they have jetisoned the knuckleheads and replaced them with with talented young guys with good character. In spite of getting jobbed in the lottery (the lottery should only be played for entertainment purposes, not as an investment strategy), we still got the two best players in the draft. Hard to complain too bitterly about that.

Yeah, right. Time to go adjust your tin foil hat and scan the sky above Portland for black helicopters. There is definitely a conspiracy afoot.

Re: Zach denied Player-of-the-week, NBA gives it to Yao
Let me see if I get this straight.
There is NO evidence that Zach was passed over for the honor. He lost fair and square to Yao.
This is further evidence to support the contention that Stern hates the Blazers.
Oooooookaaaaaay.
Little hint:
When you want to push a conspiracy theory, wait until a scandal, dispute, alleged coverup, so-called coincedence, etc. occurs. It flows a little better.

Zach didn't win, but he was nominated for Western Conference POW. Is that not within sniffing distance of the award? No wait... let me guess, it was a diversionary tactic by Stern, the UN and the Russian Mafia (they have to hate us, too after we shipped out both Khryapa and Monia) in order to cover-up their true agenda to destroy everything Blazer related.

Re: Zach denied Player-of-the-week, NBA gives it to Yao
Just looking at Yao's numbers this week, while impressive, they are a dead heat at best if not slightly less impressive than Zach's. I still feel Zach won that spot, but meh, better to have Yao's face in the spotlight than Zachs I suppose, keep him under the radar so other teams don't pick up on the fact that he's gonna slap them around.

How are Zach's numbers more impressive? Zach averaged 1.5 more ppg, but Yao averaged 0.25 more rpg, 1.0 more apg and 1.75 more bpg. Yao shot >6% better from the field and even shot better from the line than Zach. And Yao lead his team to a 4-0 record. Zach was the slightly better scorer, but Yao's numbers were better in every other facet of the game. As good as Zach's week was, Yao's was even better.
Hopefully, losing out to Yao this week will inspire Zach to play even better next week. That's the nice thing about this award, you get another chance every seven days - unlike the all-star game that only happens once a year.

Re: Zach denied Player-of-the-week, NBA gives it to Yao
For the conspiracy theorists in the group, what exactly does the NBA have against Michael Redd and the Milwaukee Bucks? Redd outscored Joe Johnson a whopping 8.25 ppg (37.25 ppg vs. 29.0 ppg), yet the NBA gave the Eastern Conference POW to Johnson. Could it be because Johnson averaged more rpg, more apg and lead his team to a better record? Funny how that works, isn't it.

Re: Zach denied Player-of-the-week, NBA gives it to Yao
If no players get in trouble this year I think the JailBlazer thing will die off, but there will always be Stern's personal dislike toward Paul Allen to contend with.
Media bias ALWAYS favors Asian-Americans over African-Americans, especially when they are pitted against each other.
Houston is a larger market.
China is a LARGER market.
I'm surprised Zach even got mentioned.
Bottom line is Zach played without a center, with a bunch of inexperienced kids, against David West, Lamar Odom, Elton Brand and Dirk Nowitzki, against 4 teams whose combined records tonight are 16-11.
Yao played with a bunch of Allstars, against an aging Shaq, Eddie Curry, Jake Tsakadilis, and Andrew Bogut, against 4 teams whose combined records tonight are 8-19.
Zach > Yeow
Too bad the week didn't start with the Minny game.

Re: Zach denied Player-of-the-week, NBA gives it to Yao
It was a "player of the week" award.
We aren't talking about MVP, 6th Man, All-Star or anything like that. It was a player of the week award given out to a player of each conference. I mean give me a break, I bet almost every player in the league could care less that they won an award for the best player in a conference for only 1 week.
