Sad, but the right pick. Yao was just a little more dominant.

Plus Houston is 5-2 and the talk among many NBA analysts . . . I think that has someting to do with these awards.

Yeah, and besides, Yao doesn't have any help on his team. I mean c'mon ... Tracy McGrady? Shane Battier? Ha!
Zach has the fortune of having a team of offensive all-stars around him to make the game that much easier.
Oh wait ...

Zach just picked a bad week to have a career week.
hopefully the Zach vs Yao debate is an all-season one.
hey, a guy can hope.

I also think Zach's off-night (20 points, 9 rebounds) last night and Yao's best game of the week coming last night had an impact.

I think the NBA will ALWAYS look for a reason to overlook the accomplishments of anyone / anything "Trail Blazer".

Re: Zach denied Player-of-the-week, NBA gives it to Yao
Stop being so paranoid. There is no anti-Blazer bias from the NBA (they featured LaMarcus Aldridge on their homepage today). The award went to the player who had the better week. See, this thread for the details. For the week, Yao put up better numbers in all categories, except scoring (30.5 vs. 29.0). He lead his team to a 4-0 record including a 22 point road thumping over the defending champs. Zach had a great week, but finished with his worst game and his team wnet 2-2. Yao had an even greater week and finished the week with 35/17/7 and 34/14 games. Home team bias aside, the award went to the most deserving player.

McGrady is shooting below 39%, Battier is only scoring 10 a game and Bonzi has played about 30 minutes all season. Zach had a GREAT week, but Yao killed it.

Look who are at the top of the PER list for the early season:
http://www.knickerblogger.net/stats/2007/jh_ALL_PER.htm
RANK TEAM NAME POS G MIN/G PTS/40 eFG FT% 3P% TS% FT/FG PPR AST-r TO-r REB-r USG-r PER

So close on this list.
Yet, it was a pretty easy pick for POTW:
Yao, better stats overall.
Yao, better record (most important)
Yao, monster last game - final impression helps
Yao, lead team to crush defending champs on road going head to head with Shaq.
Jesus, how could you not vote for Yao. I doubt the voting was even close.
