True Test Begins Tonight
Okay, so those of us who are still wondering whether or not this team is "for real" will likely start getting answers tonight. The schedule has been pretty favorable so far, with 4 home games (3 of which were wins). But now the team is on the road for a brutal 4 games / 5 nights stretch, where late night travel, unfamiliar beds, and all the distractions that come with life on the NBA road are all likely to factor into the team's performance. And where "home cookin'" is likely to play against, rather than for, the Blazers.
Tuesday - @ Minnesota
Wednesday - @ Cleveland
Friday - @ Boston
Saturday - @ New Jersey
And the first 3 games are vs. (arguably) playoff-caliber opponents.
We are 4-3 right now after Sunday's loss to Dallas. One loss away from .500. We should start getting our "for real" answers as early as tonight.
GO BLAZERS!!!

Re: True Test Begins Tonight
I would be pleased if we came back 2-2
Its nice we are 4-3 but we are not that good IMHO. We are a one Dixon shot away from being 3-4. Should probably be 2-5. I am happy we closed out a few games. But you can not come from behind 27 points down on title contenders. Getting down early is a bad sign. They need to nip that in the butt right away and stop it.
But I love what I see from them.. determination and a no quit attitude. ITs nice to see. I enjoy the team concept even more. We have a good foundation for possibly a very good team down the raod after they season/gel a bit.
Getting rid of the injury bug will help a lot.

Re: True Test Begins Tonight
if "for real" means hustling, working hard, and competing, I think, barring injury, this is what the team is.
If you mean playoff contender.....wow....it will take every single thing falling into place perfectly. I have doubts.

Re: True Test Begins Tonight
I expect them to lose all the games and will be delighted if they play hard, and the youngins continue to improve. Honestly couldn't care less if they win right now. What they are doing is building a foundation for the future, and playing hard and improving is all we should want them to do. This team with Roy out, and to a much lesser extent Joel and Raef out, shouldn't be expected to win very many games...especially road games.
Go Blazers, come home healthy, and improve each game.

The way the Dallas game went, we were one Dixon shot away from being 5-2, as well. That's the lotto you play.

Re: True Test Begins Tonight
I think this team can be a pretty good team this year and a damn good team next year. How good the team can be hinges upon Martel and Lamarcus, because does anybody know how good those two really are? I think they will pan out to be a Sheed and Kyle Korver type duo, and I think that'll be enough to be a top 5 team eventually, agree? If LA eventually takes the C position, the oldest starter is 25, and if that isn't exciting, I don't know what is!

0-4 (I'll cry)
1-3 (What I expect)
2-2 (I'll be thrilled)
3-1 (My students will hate my nonconstant Blazer Celebrations)
4-0 (I'll lose ability to think coherently)

Re: True Test Begins Tonight
The only team they should beat, IMO is Boston, but I think they will contend against both Minny and Cleveland. One of the guards will have to step it up though in any game that we expect to win, and of course Zach has to be on top of his game.

This team is closer to being 2-5 than 5-2. Don't kid yourself.

Re: True Test Begins Tonight
0-4 I expect us to get whacked by Minnesota. I think it will be one of those shocks to a young teams' system that they can't recover from on the road. Especially with 4 games in 5 nights. I still think they'll try hard and be competitive in a couple of the games but I don't think they're going to win one.

Don't mean any harm but I don't think either of you are right. This team is closer to 4-3 frankly. It's why we play the games instead of speculate on records. When we did play the last 7 games; we won 4 and lost 3.
