Can Lamarcus play SF?
What do you guys think about us starting Zach at PF, Joel at C and LaMarcus at SF?
I'll bet LaMarcus is as agile on defense as Outlaw, Udoka and Martell. We should have a serious rebounding advantage over everyone and keep them outside.
In the past, we played Cliff at PF and Rasheed at SF with success.

Yega this might be he first time I agree with you. I have been suggesting this on other boards since we drafted him. Offensively there is no question in my mine he can excell. Defense is the question, but I think he can do it. We need Joel back!

No way, he never has played outside of the post.

Re: Can Lamarcus play SF?
if we play some weird zone, those three would be ok.
stick joel and lamarcus on either side of the post. zach at the ft line. and one wing player doing all the running between wing and baseline?
otherwise, man to man, it would be a disaster with small ball being so successfull.

I think he can handle it in brief stretches, but I don't know about starting him there and playing him for long mins in that position.

Re: Can Lamarcus play SF?
So far this season I have seen him able to defend every position on the court. Several times now he has taken on a point guard and came away the winner of the battle. So I believe he could at least defend the 3. I also saw him make a few nifty passes. The question is, does he have that sort of range, I have heard he can hit out to about 18'? The second question is, how good is he at putting the ball on the floor? I have not seen him do it much except in post situations...has anybody seen him with a face up game yet? You need a face up game at SF.

Re: Can Lamarcus play SF?
i hope we don't try Aldridge at sf. he's strictly an inside player on defense. it would be such a waste to have him run around on the perimeter when he can be much more of a presence inside. on offense, yes he can shout out up to 18ft, but he's better closer for the O boards and some post up baskets.

Re: Can Lamarcus play SF?
I think he can play SF at times, but in the same way that any athletic PF can play SF at times. He simply doesnt have the ball handling skills to be a full time SF, or the range. I belieeve he will eventually have the range to hit a 3 with somehwhat accuracy, but cant ever see him being a decent dribbler.

Re: Can Lamarcus play SF?
Oh heck no!
Don't be get me wrong, for as much bashing of Aldridge as I have done on this board, he has been a tremendous help as a defensive presence down low and also a decent rebounder considering his size. To move him to the 3 would be a huge mistake, opposing 3's would eat him up offensively. He isn't quick enough on his feet to keep a 3 in front of him. Most NBA small forwards have driving slashing ability to go along with a deep shot and they would take him off the dribble with ease. Trust me, it would be an ugly thing. His ball-handling abilities also aren't on par with NBA 3's. Aldridge is a 4/5, there is no way at this point he could play anything else. Unless he practiced long and hard on his ball handling and thats doubtful. Most big's who have good ball handling skills were at one time smaller guards when they were growing up through high school and such and then had a major growth spurt and their ball handling abilities stuck with them.
