This was a trade that I thought would happen before Telfair was shipped out. It makes a lot of sense for Atlanta, as they have too many SFs and could use a solid point to go with them.
I like Jack's attitude and his work ethic. However, when Roy plays beside him, Roy is the playmaker. I'm not sure Roy's handle is much worse than Jack's either. I would think a combination of Garcia and Roy, with Dickau as a backup would be enough coverage at the point. You could run a regular rotation of Roy, Garcia, and Webster at the 1-2 positions with Dixon and Dickau as backup.
On the down side, I see SF as a position we could really use someone solid at, and Atlanta isn't likely to give up one of their top SFs, so we may end up with another almost starter like Travis. You have to figure that Josh Smith and Marvin aren't going anywhere, so that leaves Childress? I'm not sure I like him that much better than Outlaw/Webster.

So much for this deal being a possibility.

We keep jamaal we shed $8.3 mil THIS YEAR
The Blazer brass has made some good trades this last summer. I can not see them doing this as reported

Not a bad idea, actually.
Jack for Childress seems like a fair deal for both teams. I'd do it.

Agreed.
But if it were Magloire for Batista, Salim, Wright, and maybe Indiana's 1st rounder (only if Atlanta gets a top 3 pick)?
I'd think about it. Atlanta is one of the worst teams in the league this year, and it's possible they could end up with a top-3 pick.

Sending out Magloire, Dixon and Dickau for Jamison interests me more

Is it just me, or does this trade not work?
Magloire: $8.3 million out
Wright, Stoudamire, Batista: 4.4 million in
Never mind, I see Atl is under the cap.
Still, this trade makes NO sense for Portland, unless we get a draft pick to go along with it. Or the right to swap picks with Atlanta at least. We take on an extra year of Wright's $3 million contract just to get rid of Magloire? S. Stoudamire is no great prize, certainly doesn't tip the scales in our favor at all.

Re: POR\WAS\ATL trade rumor
How about Magloire, Outlaw and Dixon for some bench-warmer named Arenas!!!
PG: Sergio
SG: Arenas
SF: Roy

They're 8m under the cap, so the 110% rule isn't invoked.

Re: POR\WAS\ATL trade rumor
Childress: Hypothetical Scenario.
1. Portland trades Jarrett Jack for Josh Childress.
2. Portland re-signs Travis Outlaw (if it's cheap)
3. Magloire Expires
4. Derek Anderson expires.
-Opening Day Roster-
PG: Brandon Roy
SG: Ime Udoka
SF: Josh Childress
PF: Zach Randolph
C: LaMarcus Aldridge
-2nd Unit-
PG: Sergio Rodriguez
SG: Martell Webster
SF: Draft Pick-or-Darius Miles
PF: Travis Outlaw
C: Joel Przybilla
11. Miles-or-Pick
12. Raef LaFrentz
13. Dan Dickau
14. Juan Dixon
15. Open-or-Freeland-or-2ndRounder
As the season progresses, you replace Udoka with Webster in the starting lineup.

GRASPING AT STRAWS HERE. AS CHEAP as Patterson is lately. He may do it just so he pays less salary THIS YEAR. Magloires $8.3 mil is far more expensive for half a season that $4.4 mil or so. And he gets a cheap big man in WRIGHT for next year without the trouble of having to go to free agency.
We may be doing this trade to save money for just a little over half a season.
But it gives more PT to LMA
I can see us going for ATL/Indiana's draft pick for sure.

I know nobody around here likes him, but Raef LaFrentz played 82 and 80 games in the last two seasons, respectively. We've also committed 36 million for him over the next 3 years. Might as well put him at backup center instead of Wright, right?

Jack is twice the player that Josh Childress is. Also, Brandon Roy is NOT A POINT GUARD!!
Using Roy at point is a waste of his talent. He can set up the offense from the wing or the post and can score or create, like a less athletic version of D. Wade or closer to a Manu Ginobili.
Just because Roy can handle the ball does not mean the Blazers should dump Sergio (a unique talent) or Jack (potentially a Top 10 point).
If you want to play the best 5 players on the roster, try this lineup:
Sergio
Jack
Roy
Zach
Aldridge
This group can score at will and has enough quickness to cover for Zach's defensive deficiency. Zach rebounds to start the break and Roy and Aldridge can run the wings. Jack can also finish.
