Cleveland in 1986. Traded Roy Hinson Philly for #1 pick (Brad Daugherty).
76ers were suckers that day!!

I'd not even be too worried about shooting with that line-up. All of the guards and small forwards are decent, and even your listed 4s have some range. If Raef ever finds his shooting eye, hands, and whatever else he's currently missing for the task that'd be bonus. Sure there'd still be some cold nights on occasion but really I think there'd be enough there to keep defenses honest.

I really think that would be a fun line up that would be a good team as well. They could play both up tempo and half court with Roy and Nocioni playing down low.

Re: Looking ahead at potential draft day scenarios...
Even if we don't get Oden or Durant, there is plenty of solid players going into this draft. A frontline of Wright and Aldridge could be the most defensively dominant frontcourt in the league.

Brandon Wright is going to be a great player. Adding him to Aldridge would be a very good defensive interior. We know Aldridge can play offense, and it looks like Wright can as well. Those two would be fun to watch over the next several years.
There are others as well, but all in all Oden and Dyrant are head and shoulders above the others.

Re: Looking ahead at potential draft day scenarios...
Here is how I would rank the top players in this draft..
Cant Miss Franchise Players: Oden & Durant
Potential Franchise Players: Brandan Wright
All Stars: Al Horford, Spencer Hawes, Chase Budinger
Potential All Stars: Hasheem Thabeet, Julian Wright, Thad Young, Marcus Williams
Just a rough look.

Out of all the players in this year's draft this is the one player I'm hoping the blazers get. Can you imagine the length and athleticism with a front court of LMA and Brendan Wright? Both need time to develop, but a potentially dynamic offensive duo indeed. Assuming both emerge as quality front court players, this would also leave Z-bo expendable, allowing us to shop him around for a small forward if Martel doesn't pan out.

Portland should be able to squeeze a tad more out of Chicago than just Nocioni and an expiring. NY's pick is all the way down at 11, and may continue dropping if David Lee has anything to say about it.

Re: Looking ahead at potential draft day scenarios...
No love for Noah from anyone? I really like the kid and think he would pair up great with Aldridge down the road.
What I would like to see is, since getting the 1 or 2 pick is out of the question, I would love to see the Blazers get another pick in the same 3-10 range they seem to already be. Getting the pick would be difficult, but I would use Outlaw, Webster and Randolph to try to get the pick, or actually anyone except Sergio, Roy or Aldridge.

Really? I think both easily have the talent to be all stars. Thabeet is a freak. He is not putting up amazing numbers(yet), but has the build and speed that 7'3 players rarely have. He has a long way to go offensivley, but I would compare him to Oden defensivley. I think he can become the next Mutombo. As for Young, I think he will be a RJ type player. A cusp all-star.

From an NBA scout, quoted in SI recently:
On Hasheem Thabeet, UConn freshman center: "I don't think he can play. I think he's a stiff. He's obviously very long, but he's not a great runner. He doesn't have a high motor at all. It's a given he wouldn't have the technical stuff down, but watch him, he doesn't run gracefully and he doesn't have a lot of energy out there."

Here is what I would like to see, and something I think is fairly realistic.
Let's say we end up at 7
I'd like to trade Zach for Nocionni and Brown. That gives us a SF/PF allowing us to be more veristile and some serious cap relief.
Trade Jack for Childress
Let Magloire walk
Sign Blake
With the 7th pick I'd like to see us draft Yi Jianlian, or Hawes if he comes out.
That should give us a line up going forward of
Sergio/Blake
Roy/Childress/Webster
Nocioni/Childress/Webster
Aldridge/Outlaw/Nocioni
Joel/Yi or Hawes
With Freeland, Dixon, Raef as the fillers. That's a pretty athletic team, and one that has only one real weakness....shooting. I'd love to see Portland sign a couple of veteran shooters to fill out the 15 man roster.
|
This team has two other glaring weaknesses-
1- Low post scoring-- LaMarcus can get the occasional shot down low, but is at his best hitting the 10-15 footer and slashing to the hoop. Until he develops his strength so he can attack the rim, he is not a solid replacement for Zach. Joel--no way.
2- Rebounding. Lamarcus is good for 7-8/night and Joel 5-7 in his 20-25 minutes.
