The quest for Garnett
Chicago has been rumored in wanting Garnett, seemingly for a long time. I know this has been talked about for ages in here. But lets rekindle the idea
Can we make a better offer for KG and still retain Aldridge, Roy, Jack, Sergio and Webster?
Will a package of Randolph + Magloire + Dixon + Dickau make it? add in some 2nd rounders + cash
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/feature...22~16~16~16~16
I would love to see a KG + Aldridge front line
PG Jack or Sergio, ?
SG Roy, Webster, ?
SF Ime, Outlaw, Miles
PF Garnett, LeFrentz
C Aldridge, Przybilla
need to sign some fillers for the remainder of the season
[/end of dream.. putting back the pipe Hap]

that would be a FANTASTIC trade for Portland but I think they will demand at least Roy, Sergio, Aldridge or 1st Draft pick.

Re: The quest for Garnett
Sorry, no TB. If Minny ever decides to part with KG it will be to rebuild - so they would ask for young talent on first contracts and expiring deals and future picks in return. We wouldn't be able to pawn off our garbage-time players for KG.
To even begin discussions for KG - the Wolves would be asking for Roy and Aldridge and probably Zach too.

Re: The quest for Garnett
The problem the T'Wolves are facing now is that they can't afford to surround Garnett with competitive players due to his gigantic salary.
I would love to see the Blazers trade Zach and Miles to Minny for Garnett. The numbers add up. And if Miles has his stuff together Minny wouldn't be getting any scrubs in the deal. Garnett's contract wouldn't be so much of a problem for us (initially) because of the small contracts we are paying our young core. It would eventually become a problem, though - as the contracts around his grow. Would love to see Garnett working with the kids, though.
One other thing to keep in mind, though: Garnett ain't no saint. He's kept his nose pretty clean off the court, but he HAS had numerous run-ins with team-mates. Despite his game-time contributions, locker-room chemistry (which by all accounts is EXCELLENT right now) would be at risk. Kinda like tossing a hand-grenade into a barrel of gasoline.

I would love to toss Miles in the trade. But I just do not see many teams taking it. Miles is a talent, it just needs to be harvested. No coach has done it yet

Re: The quest for Garnett
I think Chicago was offering Deng, Thomas and Brown... if I recall correctly. At least rumored to be
Randolph>Deng
Magloire and Brown are very similar and both expiring
Thomas > Dixon + Dickau, so we add draft picks and cash
just fishing....

Re: The quest for Garnett
I don't think so. I think the type of package that might get it done would be
Zach + Mags+ (Aldridge or Roy) + first rounder + filler.
There is no way I see portland doing a trade like that so and I don't see Minny settling for less unless KG asks to be traded. At an absolute minimum I would say something like Zach + Outlaw + Webster + first rounder + filler, which might be worth it. This is a bargin basement deal IMO.

Re: The quest for Garnett
I'm going to get blasted for this, but I personally don't think KG is a big-time player anymore. Sure, he puts up big numbers, but I really don't see the guy taking games over. I think he plays with the same intensity in game 3 of the preseason as he does in game 7 of the Western Conferene Finals. The great players have the ability to capitalize on big moments with big plays. KG is completely overhyped, IMHO. I'd much rather save some money and build a better team than hamstring ourselves for years in the hopes that a lower-tier All-Star can put us over the top. If we're going to mortgage our future, I'd at least like to see us do it with a guy I could see taking us to the championship. And KG ain't it.
Not to mention the fact that the guy has pretty much been reported to be a complete jerk. Thanks, but no thanks.

Re: The quest for Garnett
Lusting after KG is so 2003.
We are not a winning team. After trading for him we wouldn't be much better than the team he has now. He doesn't want to be here.
He is past his prime with lots of mileage, sometime anger issues and a history of blah play in big games. We don't want him.
Wow. Feeling is mutual. Win Win.
Those thinking about KG: Time to get over it and move on.

Miles will never reach his potential because he doesn't have the motivation to make himself a better player.
He never developed his skills to the point where be could be an effective SF. He can put up great numbers when he plays the PF spot (47 pts against Denver) but can't defend that position.
The question now is, will he work hard enough to return to his previous level of play. Asking for development is nothing but a fantasy.
He is the ultimate enigma.
