The way it's reported, the worst team always has the best shot (25%) relative to all other teams.

There's a 75% chance that the #1 team will not win the lottery, but there is greater certainty that the #2, #3 and #5-13 teams won't make it either if you look at them individually.

Is there some hidden factor that you're alluding to?

I think he's just referring to the fact that the 1st seed in the lottery is more likely to get the 4th pick than the 1st. That doesn't mean that the first seed isn't still the best spot in the lottery, though.

Yeah I don't know exactly all the odds but im not saying I want them to tank I just think with the up coming schedule It will be difficult for the Blazers to win to many, and if were going to be in the lottery might as well get the best shot possible at a franchise player. But if they can start pulling out these wins against these good teams then hey im all for it, lol. GO BLAZERS!

There is no need to tank the season. Chances are we will get a top 5-10 pick. If we want a top three pick, why not trade our pick with players we have to move up? If Oden is sitting there at pick 2, trade Zach and the #8 and move up. Hopefully, you would get some value on the team you are trading with for Zach's contract. I think Zach's style of play doesn't fit in well with the other players, but I bet he has still enough value to move up in a deep draft.

They do. They have the single-best chance of any team to get the #1 pick. That chance is still lower than 50%, but it's better than any other single team's chances.

No one team is ever a "good" bet to get the #1 pick, because no one team has a better than 25% chance at #1. But the worst team has a 25% chance at it compared to something like a 20% chance for the second-worst team.

The system is set up this way precisely to discourage tanking. Teams would be much more willing to tank if it meant a guaranteed reward.

When I look at this season 3 wins could be the difference between the 3rd seed and the 9th.

Now I hate losing as much as anyone. But on draft day if we have to trade a player like Jack or Outlaw to move up from the 9th pick to the 3rd to grab the guy we really want... it makes you wonder if those 3 extra wins are worth one of our young talents.
