Biased Officials?
Recently, it seems like we're getting hosed by the refs, and this goes beyond Roy's attempt at a buzzer beater the other night. I know I'm watching the games with my Rose Colored Glasses on, but I don't expect anything but a fair game. I know the theory that young guys aren't supposed to get calls, but it just seemed SO one-sided recently, even AT THE ROSEGARDEN!! Is it because we don't have proven vets? Or, is it still The refs vs. Previous Jail Blazer teams? Is it my imagination? Are Mike Barrett and Rice over biased (they've mentioned numerous times latel that the Blazers aren't getting calls)?

Re: Biased Officials?
Brandon should have gotten a call late in the game on a drive to the hoop, but I think Portland ended up scoring, anyway.
I think we all reserve the right to play a "the refs cost us the game!" card 3-4 times a year, but this isn't one of those nights where I would do that. I think the refs did, for the most part, a really solid job tonight

Re: Biased Officials?
Barrett and Rice are biased.....really biased. But we seem to keep getting hosed by the refs every game.
Remember this?

Re: Biased Officials?
The sun was whacked accross the hand on the final shot. It was an obvious call on his airball shot, no call.

Re: Biased Officials?
Wasn't Leon Lett the former Cowboy defensive lineman who made that incredibly stupid play in the Super Bowl against the Bills when he thought he had run a touchdown back and got it stripped by Don Beebe.

Re: Biased Officials?
Jeez guys, don't let your paranoia get the best of you. I was at the game tonight and had pretty good seats (100 level, row G near the Blazers basket in the 2nd half and OT). So, I got to see evrything up close and personal. I have no idea what Berrett and Rice were whining about. Yeah, there were maybe one or two calls questionable calls or non-calls that hurt each team. All in all a pretty evenly called game IMHO.
I thought the game tonight was well reffed, much better than the Chicago game (which I also attended) where Brandon Roy got mugged and didn't get a call, but everytime someone sneezed at Ben Gordon he went to the line for two. But then it was two different officiating crews.
In the game tonight, the Blazers shot 30 free throws to 23 for the Suns, Diaw fouled out and Amare had five fouls and a technical. And keep in mind the Blazers did nothing but settle for outside jump shots the first quarter and a half while Phoenix was constantly attacking the rim. Once the Blazers started taking the ball to the basket they got just as many, or more, calls than the Suns.
It wasn't the officials that cost the Blazers the game. The Blazers had a chance to win in regulation, but Outlaw missed a shot right at the rim (I got to see that one up close and personal, too - regrettably). In overtime their offensive execution was poor and they had some breakdowns on defense. In a close game against a good experience team like the Suns, that'll cost you the game. Blaming it on the refs, especially tonight, is a cop out.

Re: Biased Officials?
Feeling like you're getting hosed by the refs is a sign that the team is getting better. When you're down 20, there's not much to complain about save for one's own players.

Re: Biased Officials?
I have tried to dig into some data and find evidence of a home court advantage in terms of fouls, FT attempts etc... but I haven't been able to find it. It does seem like the home team gets calls though. A lot of time you see ticky-tacky stuff to even the calls out... but ones that don't result in FTs. I would agree we are not getting a break... but that is the way it has always been.
