Interesting POR\MIL rumor
I found this on another board thought I would post it here.

According to bucks Gm Ernie Grunfeld, both Portland and Washington are very interested in the bucks 8th overall pick. Bucks are very interested in moving down to 10 because they want to draft Kirk Heinrich, but feel it would be too early at number 8. Portland would be looking to grab gary payton and the number 8 for sabonis, Randolph and either portlands first round pick or future considerations. Then the bucks would be able to release sabonis at no cost.
|
Randolph? for Payton and #8? Sounds like Bob's kind of deal to me. Would this mean Wallace? and Wells? stay? and Pattersen goes?

They can release GP at no cost as well....
We will not give up Zach for GP IMHO. I do not know if Sabas will even play next year here in the USA....

Hmmm... with the #8 we could probably get Rid. With Payton and Rid, we wouldn't need Damon or McFinished, (and yeah Patterson and Payton are less than friends) I think the reaction of most people will probably be 'no... don't let Randolph go' but... I would *really* like to have Rid for our PG in a few years. I like Randolph a lot... but the broken jaw thing... ouch. He seems pretty productive right now... but he was playing against a lot of 2nd stringers. Going up against the likes of Duncan and Garnett, and I think it would be a different story. If everything else stayed the same... a lineup like
Payton
Wells
Pippen
Rasheed
Davis
would be tough. Talk about some D. Payton only has a few years left... and by then Randolph could be something special. But... as someone else on this board pointed out though... I fear he might turn into a Gary Trent. Trent looked pretty good at first, but he never got much better.

good lord you overrate Rid.
He is no better than Dan Dickau. No way will he be worth a lotto pick. Yes, i could see him getting 14 points and 7 assists at the peak of his career, but their are many more good players avaliable at 8.
Caman, Wade, Pietrius, Sweetney and maby Pavel are guys i would easily take over Rid.

Options at #8:
Dwane Wade : 6'3 1/2 w/o shoes, but has a 6'11 wingspan..proving to scouts in Chicago that he can play the Point. Yesterdays insider, said he was just torching Barbosa in workouts.
Chris Kamen : 7'0 C. Stock is dropping like a rock. Has had horrible workouts so far. I'd stay away from this guy.
Jarvis Hayes : 6'7 sg/sf:
Strengths: Quick first step enables him to gain solid separation from his defender ... Might be the best player in the nation when it comes to moving without the ball ... Unlike many young players Hayes is an wonderful mid-range shooter ... Patient scorer who doesn't force many shots that are not there ... Above average athleticism allows him to be a solid finisher in transition ... Smart player who has a great feel for the game ...

This makes no sense.
This absolutely makes no sense. First of all, you don't need to trade a talented player for a free agent if you have the money to sign him. Secondly, why would Sabonis be included in a deal when chances are that he won't even suit up next year, and has said that he won't suit up for any team but Portland, he would probably rather retire. Lastly, Zach is young and has lots of value. Do you think your going to get something at #8 which would exceed or be equal to his value? I think not. There is a good chance the best PG of the draft will actually be the 3rd one taken, Barbosa. He will go in the teens. I put very little credit into this report.

If...IF...we get the 8th i would rather we used that on a center
than a point guard...when we have those already...we NEED
a center...not a PF playing the CENTER spot..even though DAVIS
was playing good there

There really aren't that many Centers in this draft worth taking that high (imo) Maybe Pavel Podkonzine, he is a beast! I'd love to see Dwane Wade on this team, think Gilbert Arenas /w a jumper!

I've been a big Wade fan for a couple of years (my brother's a Marquette alumn and told me about him early). He has the tools to be REALLY good. If we had the 8th pick and Lampe and the slam-dunk top 4 were gone, I'd take a flier on Wade.

If we get the 8th then you have no choice but to get the best player, not what u need, a center is what we need but who dares to take Kaman over Wade or Barbosa? It'd be purely retarded. Can't argue at the deal though I love Randolph's game I dunno if he can be a star, Id rather give Sheed in this deal I think then Randolph. Sabas would be included for this to work capwise.

Can someone help me understand draft-day trades? Can a free agent (like GP) be traded to the Blazers on draft day?
Any info is appreciated.

No, he cannot.
Payton cannot even begin to negotiate a potential sign-and-trade deal until July 1st, and there is a moratorium on trades for 2 weeks after that. Which means that any trade of this sort would involve the Bucks drafting for Portland at #8, then making the deal after July 16th.
Makes it kind of tricky.
And what's this about Sabonis? Hey, if Sabas doesn't exercise his option for the coming year, Portland can't trade him.

It's been written that Sabonis's contract is not fully guaranteed, which makes him an excellent trade piece if he's not coming back. I believe he'd count at his full rate in the trade, but if he were to retire/be cut his contract wouldn't count at the full rate for luxury tax purposes.
I'm not sure what type of options are involved with Sabonis's contract that could potentially ruin him as a piece of trade bait.

Luke Ridnour
The 2003 Pac-10 player of the year
MVP of the conference tournament
Honorable mention AP All-America
----------------------------------------------------
Dan Dickau
Ummm.... played for Gonazaga?
----------------------------------------------------
I'd say a better comparison would be to Steve Nash.
