Re: Allen buys back the Rose Garden
It's been expected, but it's still good news. I just hope we don't have to hear too much discussion of the healing of the "broken financial model".

Re: Allen buys back the Rose Garden
They don't say how much he paid, so we'll never know if Allen benefitted or got screwed in the arena bankruptcy process. I think both Vulcan and PAM are private equity groups, rather than public companies, so I guess they don't have to disclose the terms of a major deal. I'd be curious to know, but in any case, it's cool that Allen was able to reunite the entities. The Blazers still can't leave Portland, becuase of hte Exclusive Site Agreement between Allen and the city, and Allen already had an agreement in place with PAM to do a joint sale, but he backed out and bought the RG himself.
What that all means is that Allen can't move the team and probably intends on keeping it, which is about the best outcome we could have hoped for.

Ahh... that's a good feeling. Now if they just cut the beer prices back to something reasonable, all will be right with the world.

Hooray!
More good news coming from the Blazers. Now, it'd be nice to have a solid draft day and make the playoffs next year. Things are going to be bright... blinding, even.

By the power vested in me by bbf.com, and with Talkhard as my witness, I now pronounce you man and man. You may now PM the husband.

Hopefully, he got reamed in a really bad way. Just like he did to so many Portland businesses when he abused the bankruptcy laws. He still hasn't made restitution to most of them.

What it means is he can sell the team much more easily, which is what both he and I have hoped for.

I hope the opposite. I'm much more fond of Paul, who provides my basketball entertainment, than I am of some insurance companies and investment funds, who have never done squat for me.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'abused the bankruptcy laws'. He used them, to be sure. But, those laws exist for a reason, and Paul didn't make them up.

I guess there's no way to know for sure on that, until Paul does (or doesn't) sell the team. My guess at this point is that he's not selling...

$3 for swill is still way too much money. I would be OK with them keeping the prices where they are but serving better beer. Or better yet, dropping the prices AND serving better beer.
