Re: Mike Conley Jr

Another factor is that at least ESPN is now reporting that Conley has announced that he's staying in school -- probably a wise choice for him to make. And while it's not like he couldn't change his mind, if he's confident in his skills, better to not just get better with one year of school but to come out in a draft that's not already so stacked at the top.

Regardless of when he comes out or where he plays, he's certainly a player I'm looking forward to seeing more of.

Re: Mike Conley Jr

I think Conley is a gamer. The question is will he go to the pro's right away or stay in school. I believe if he stays in school most of the inconsistencies in his game would be worked out, the weak parts of his game are all things that can be ironed out by experience. Put it this way: I wouldn't kick him off the Blazers for eating crackers.

Maybe he knows Oden's staying. Wouldn't that suck to be Boston or Memphis then?

Re: Mike Conley Jr

Point guard seems to be a position that veterans dominate and that it's very difficult to project how good a draftee will be at the next level, because intangibles are just so important. Some guys are so exceptional that you can't pass up on them, but if I'm trying to build a championship team, I'd probably use my lotto pick on some other position, then get a veteran point guard through free agency or trade, or try lucking out by taking a flyer on a PG with a late first round pick.

Mike Conley looks very good, but not exceptional enough that I'd really bank on him being a great NBA player. Being a heady leader in college is one of those attributes that doesn't always carry over to the next level.

Size. And I agree that his shooting is not exceptional nor is he a pure play-maker. He's a combo guard like Wade or Arenas. But smaller than Wade and without the shot of Arenas.
