To the complainers about how Rashard isn't a 'franchise' player... well Zach really isn't a franchise player either, yea? With Rashard we'd take a step sideways in terms of overall production, but step way up in terms of coachability, chemistry, and with Aldridge stepping in at the 4, production at the SF position.

yeah...let's compound the mistake we made with Zach by upping the ante for Lewis...who isn't a "franchise" player either...nor anywhere worth the $15-20 million POR would be on the hook for him....
and trying to justify it by saying....What is another $3 million more than Zach's current deal?...Is like saying, what's another $30,000 when your already $120,000 in debt....Way to ignore the problem entirely...that being your in serious debt....or in POR case you seriously erred in Zach's contract...so let's just go make a bigger mistake..
I reiterate...Rashard Lewis is not worth a max contract...niether in dollar amount or length of years...a good shooter\scorer? Yeah...but that is about it...and all the "coachability" in the world isn't going to turn him into "the franchise" for POR or any other team, no matter how much you may wish it to be so....
and really, this is all a moot point anyway, because I HIGHLY doubt any deal will happen b\t POR & SEA...unless SEA is performing a major fleecing on the Blazers....
This is a pipedream and an ill suited one at best

I don't think he's really worth a max deal either, but Nate did say he thinks Lewis is ready to become a franchise player....For what that's worth

Or maybe it's like saying I just paid a dollar for a candy bar, and I'd prefer to spend $1.29 on a candy bar.
The team, now that Allen is interested again, doesn't play by the same rules that most teams in the NBA does, and it certainly doesn't have the same limitations that you or I would with our personal debt.
I don't see Lewis getting $15m from the Blazers or anyone else, with all of that being said... it seems Lewis is saying, "If you pay me that much, Seattle, you would be my first choice. If I'm only going to make $8m or $10m, I'm going to go make that somewhere else."
I'm not exactly sure how Portland would end up with Lewis, but I think it's more than a pipedream. The stars seem to be aligning for it to happen...

And as others and myself once said... I doubt there was any chance of landing Nate McMillan as our coach

Re: Do you think Rashard Lewis is worth this much?
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Rashard Lewis is the Shareef Abdur-Rahim of small forwards. Boring but effective scorer, who nonetheless appears to make no noticeable difference to the success rate of his teams.
Why are we trying to become the Seattle Supersonics? Couldn't we at least try to become the Kemp/Payton brand that made the finals rather than the drab variety currently languishing below us in the standings?

Taking on Seattle's better parts isn't exactly turning this team into the Supersonics. In the right system, Lewis could be the kind of difference maker this team really needs. We already have the right kind of young players to build around, we just need that ellusive veteran leader.
