I'm convinced we need to get this guy
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2...ory?id=2898178
There is nothing to not like about him. Kid is intelligent, coachable, is one of the best athletes in the draft (as evidenced by his stellar combine #s) and has the drive to succeed. He's probably going to go around #13 which would be a steal for a guy like Thad Young. The more I see him and/or read about him the more I'm convinced he should be our second 1st round pick (I have all the confidence in the world that Pritchard will pull this off) and eventual starting SF.

Re: I'm convinced we need to get this guy
Trading into the lottery in a strong draft, without giving up anything of value, is far more difficult than what your post implied.
Young is a nice player. He's still learning how to play on the perimeter, though, and his dribble-penetration is poor, so he hast to settle for mid-range to long-range shots. He has a nice shot, but his range is limited. He should drift into the post more than he did in college in which his passiveness made him a non-factor in GT's offense. He's a solid on-ball defender, but I don't think he can pick up switches and zone assingments because of his inexperience in complex defenses. Many expected much more from him last season and he really underperformed in college.
I don't think he would play well in Portland's offense, though. He excels on a fast-break team and that type of offense does not utilize Oden properly.

i dont know about this. from everything that i have heard young is one of the most coachable players in the draft. i think that he will pick up switches and help defense quickly. i mean he is only 19. young has as much upside as anyone in this draft.
and as for greg oden i think that he will not be misused. oden is an amare/howard with defensive skills. he is obviously not going to average 20 his first year but neither did either of those guys.

I think there is an over inflated infatuation with Young on our Blazers board. I think he will some day be a good player but that day is some time from now. I think we should be looking at players who we don't have develope as much as Young, more in the vein of Jeff Green or Al Thornton.

My gut tells me that Thornton will be a bust. Personally, I wouldn't draft him in the #9 to #13 range as there's a lot of other players that I think have greater upside (Thad Young, Nick Young, and Julian Wright come to mind). However, I'd be comfortable picking him in the #15 to #20 range if he was still available (and assuming that Portland traded for a pick in that range).
I truly hope KP is blowin' smoke when he alluded to being interested in Thornton. He just doesn't excite me.

If we get another pick and have room for them on our roster instead of keeping them overseas, Thad would be on the short list of players I'd be interested in.

If we get another pick, my first choice would be Green, my second choice would be Thad Young

I'm with you on Green. He seems to play like a 6'9" Roy and you can never have too many guys like that on your team. That said I think Green will go too early for PDx to trade for a pick in his range.

Re: I'm convinced we need to get this guy
Thaddeus reminds me so much of Travis Outlaw, which isn't really a good thing...they even look like brothers.

Personally, I trust that KP knows what he is doing. Last year many of us (way more than we would admit) wanted no part in drafting Roy (I said that I would drink poison, and that he was the next Juan Dixon. You have permission to hate me.) If KP is interested in Thorton, there must be something there. He has proven he is an excellent judge of talent.

exactly, Green would fit in perfectly with the core, moving well without the ball, not dominating posessions, and passing extremely well, our floor spacing would be legit, and he could bring good defense and size right away.
Young just has way too much potential to pass up for the likes of Brewer, Thornton, or Wright.

Wait, are you saying you'd pick Thad Young over Brewer, Thornton and Julian Wright?

I probably wouldn't pick him over Brewer, but I would pick him over Thornton or Julian Wright.
