PA from MB's blog
Seeing how I want Oden to be our pick I didn't like reading this on Mike Barret's blog:
Quote:
|
Blazers owner Paul Allen was on hand again, and several times clapped his hands during the workout, and even shouted encouragement to Durant. I had the chance to interview Allen after it was all done, and we'll have that for you soon on our Draft Central page. After the interview, Allen smiled and said, "well, who would you take?" And, I think he was actually interested in the answer. He asked a lot of people. Moments later he headed into a closed-door meeting with Kevin Pritchard and his staff.

It's not like Allen has a thing for those types of players, or has ever in the past...

Re: PB from MB's blog
Just because Allen's last small forward love affair didn't pan out doesn't mean this won't!
That, and maybe he learned his lesson?
Besides ... even if you're pro-Oden, which I am ... is drafting Durant REALLY the worst thing in the world? I mean, it's a win-win situation, no matter who we pick.

Exactly!
This has been a two man race with two very very very talented young men. Not drafting Oden isn't going to be the end of the world. Let's not forget that Aldridge is a more than capable center.
No matter what, I'm happy about who we'll draft with the #1. While I'd be happier with Oden over Durant, I'm not going to shun the Blazers for the next 20 years over it... As long as we pick one of those 2 with the pick.

Re: PB from MB's blog
While Aldridge can play some center I don't think he's a capable center. I think he's a 4, but can play 5 in a pinch for short periods. We have to pick Oden so we'll have a dominant center and then LA can play the 4 and sometimes the 5.

I was merely making the joke that Allen's favorite types of players tend to be super-athletic swingmen.
Hopefully the final call goes to KP and not Paul.

Re: PB from MB's blog
Sounds intersting.
I just want the best player, regardless of position. That is Durant or no I mean Oden. Something interesting to think about is the minutes each of these two played. oden 28 Durant 35 (that's off the top of my head, not sure exactly). Imagine if Oden played 35 minutes and had more shot attempts, that's someting scary to think of. But who knows, maybe Oden doesn't have the stamina to play extended minutes. He said in an ESPN interview he prefers half a court game (he said he wasn't confident running like the Suns).

Listen about 1min through 1:15... kinda interesting how Pritchard "slips" up.....
"What stinks is... I wish, uh, the number one pick went to us and the number two went somewhere on the east so we don't have to see this guy all the time... uh, these guys all the time..."
Another little tid bit of juice to hope their picking Oden...although I'm much more okay with Durant now after hearing them gush about him and watching the video of the workout...

That is an interesting "slip up" by KP. Thanks for posting that. That does make it sound like Oden's the pick. He tried correcting himself, but saying "these guys" just makes it a little more suspicious. I'm very curious to know what KP's leverage is by playing things this way (besides the obvios that an offer is more likely to be made to the Blazers if we don't tell).

Hey mgb, I've made it pretty well known that I am all about Oden in this draft. However, living here in Houston I got to see every UT game this past season. Durant is seriously the most dominant college player I have ever seen. I am in my early 40's, so that goes back a ways. If we were to pick Durant, I would be upset as well, but then I'd realize that we probably just selected one of the top players in the game when it's all said and done.
While he's not ideal, Aldridge is pretty much the same size as Oden right now. Oden is more physically imposing on defense, but Aldridge is not a bad alternative, and is far and away the better offensive player.
I honestly think Durant has as good of a chance to end up somewhere between Lebron and Jordan good as Oden does as ending up like Duncan/Robinson
