I've decided to make this thread to increase interest during this slow time. Hopefully it can help pass the time for a few days. It's simple. Give historic information about the Blazers that might be obscure enough that most of us have never heard of it. For example:
When comparing trivial statistics between two or more players, say Steve Blake and Jarrett Jack, and you decide to give their per-40 minute numbers, keep in mind that no player has ever averaged 40 minutes or more in any season while wearing a Blazer uniform. Plenty have come up with 39.X minutes per game.
Gary Grant was the only Blazer to have joined the team in the same season as three players who were better than he was (Brian Grant, Walt Williams, & Kelvin Cato) that still managed to outlast them.
(All seasons listed from here on are the years they finish on rather than both that year and the start year)
1998's new crop of Trail Blazers ended up playing in more combined seasons for Portland (29) down the road than the combined total of the original expansion team (27). The 1997 brand new Blazers, only one year previous, did as well (28).
On a similar note, 13 players were Blazers for the first time in 2004. Only four of them were kept for the 2005 season (Travis Outlaw, Darius Miles, Theo Ratliff, & Shareef Abdur-Rahim).
None of 1992's new Blazers were kept for the next season, the only time that happened. One of them, Ennis Whatley, did return five years later.
Mark Bryant is the only Blazer to have played six or more seasons (seven actually) for the team, yet never averaged 20 minutes or more per game.
Second stints are common among Blazers. 13 players have done it. Dale Schlueter (1971-72, 1978), Maurice Lucas (1977-80, 1988), Wayne Cooper (1983-84, 1990-92), Ennis Whatley (1992, 1997), Rod Strickland (1993-96, 2001), Tracy Murray (1993-95, 2004), Chris Dudley (1994-97, 2002-03), Arvydas Sabonis (1996-2001, 2003) who went overseas in the interim, Mitchell Butler (1997, 2002), Rick Brunson (1998-2002), Charles Smith (2003, 2006), Dan Dickau (2004, 2007), & Steve Blake (2006, 2008)
Three Blazers have missed entire seasons only to make a comeback. Mychal Thompson (1980), the ever injured Sam Bowie (1988), & Darius Miles (2007) assuming he does play next year.
You get the idea. Let's see what you know, or what you can find out.
