The whole reason I first said that the 1977 analogy wasn't a bad one was precisely due to the fact that Roy and Aldridge would be in their third year. Then I added a "but", it would be Oden's first, which seems important since he's the supposed future cornerstone of our franchise.

In all fairness, the D-wade (rookie), Butler (sophomore), and Odom heat team were a surprise playoff team that did pretty well before the Shaq trade.

I think the lakers got decent value, it just didn't fit well with Kobe. They should've tried to make it three way and gotten a decent big for butler (who had won ROY).
