heh... it does happen, but I was happy Outlaw's facial of Rodney Carney dind't go the other way on a clear out call. It could have.
Anyway, Roy had a tremendous month and recieved recognition for it with two POW awards. Paul had a tremendous month as well and got the overall month award. Good for him, but really whatever...

Re: Chris Paul Named Player of the Month
Roy in Dec. 21.2 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 6.4 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.2 BPG, 2.0 TO, 2.3 PF (while shooting) 76.6 FT%, 18.6 3FG%, 47.0 FG% (in) 36:53 MPG (in) 15 games. Blazer record in December: 13-2
Paul in Dec. 24.5 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 10.4 APG, 3.0 SPG, 0.1 BPG, 2.2 TO, 2.6 PF (while shooting) 86.9 FT%, 38.5 3FG%, 48.0 FG% (in) 39:06 MPG (in) 14 games. Hornet record in December: 9-5.
Paul was better in every category except rebounds and was virtually even in blocks, turnovers, personal fouls and FG%. After watching every game of the streak, the most surprising thing was the 18% from 3-land. Seriously? That just shows you that the ones he did make were so clutch, they stick out in my memory enough to overshadow the other 82% that he missed. If things like leadership and clutch plays were tracked statistically, I'd say Roy would win by a mile.
But looking at those numbers there, I have to give it to Paul.

Re: Chris Paul Named Player of the Month
What is also interesting is I believe the NO win streak was also ended by Toronto, the same night Utah ended the Blazer's streak. So, I do not believe the streak ending had anything to do with it.

Re: Chris Paul Named Player of the Month
FYI- Wheels pushing hard for Roy deserving the award and questioning how the NBA could have named Paul.

I mean it's not like Paul didn't deserve the award also.

Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Steve Nash, and Allen Iverson also had much better months statistically than Roy.
Bryant averaged 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists for the month.
Nash had 14 points and 14 assists.
Either or all of them should have won it over Paul if stats are what matters.

Re: Chris Paul Named Player of the Month
Paul did more statistically and Roy just happens to be the leading scorer on a great TEAM. Roy didn't exactly carry us in the way Paul did for the Hornets. Even Roy admitted it when he won POW. It was about his teammates. We went 13-2 as a team. No one player had to shoulder the load. As well as we were playing, I bet we could've won a game without Roy (see preseason) just like we did without LMA.

Re: Chris Paul Named Player of the Month
It's the old debate, is the MVP, or POM, or whatever, the player with the best numbers, or is it the best player on the best team? Paul had better numbers, Roy was the best player and leader on the best team in December. And doesn't it feel good to be able to say the Blazers were the best team?
Hopefully Roy will react like LMA did when he was left off the Rookie All Star team. Motivation.
