Re: Chris Paul Named Player of the Month
sorry, i think cp3 is overrated. there i said it. He is a great young point, but this mvp talk for him has to stop. Maybe it's because every time I see him play, J Jack is making him his you know what..but damnitt..Roy led us to a 13-2 record and 5-0 without our leading scorer at the time in LMA. Another snub for Portland, hope Roy uses this as motivation.

Re: Chris Paul Named Player of the Month
Well I'll give Paul a shout out and congrats. I don't know how much better Paul was than Roy this month (if he was better), but Paul has turned that organization around.
Paul leads his team in scoring (20), assists (10), and steals (3) . . . wish we had him.
Oh and congrats to Roy for leading the Blazers to an incredible December.

Re: Chris Paul Named Player of the Month
CP3 is playing fantastic ball this month (and year, to be honest). I am sure however, that Brandon would take many more 13-2 months over 9-5 months and a POM trophy...

Re: Chris Paul Named Player of the Month
Looking at Paul's stats, it's pretty hard to argue that they aren't deserving of the award. Brandon had a great month and won POW twice, but Paul scored more points and had more assists. I don't know that Brandon's all-around game is ever going to translate into major All-Star recognition in a league that places a premium on 30-40 point scoring games, but we all know just how valuable he is to the Blazers' success. It would have been great to see him get the recognition.

You beat me to it. I was going to post the exact same thing. In spite of the fact that a certain member of the local media is infatuated with Chris Paul and likes to bandy about impossible scenarios for the Blazers signing him as a free agent, I think the average Portland fan undervalues Paul and doesn't realize how good he is. Probably because he never seems to play that well against the Blazers and that's all most casual Portland fans see of him (it's not like the Hornets are on national TV every night).
That said, I'm still glad we have Brandon Roy. That 13 game winning streak was sweet and we couldn't/wouldn't have done it without him.

Literally, as per the picture that accompanitying the article. That is a foul on Paul and I hope it was called as our guys, inculding Roy have been called for that a couple of times recently.
Paul does continue to be better than I ever thought he would. Kudos to him. Roy was porbably better for his team though. Just hard to give it to him three times in a month.

Re: Chris Paul Named Player of the Month
Congrats to Paul
I think the award could have gone either way, but at this moment in time Paul is the better player. However, I think that Roy will be just as good and will be winning these awards soon enough. And for those who think that Paul is overrated, that's crazy. He very well may be the best all around PG in the game. I would rather have Roy for what he brings to the Blazers and what he means to the community, but Paul is great.

Re: Chris Paul Named Player of the Month
In his blog, Mike Barrett says that Paul being named POM over Roy effectively ends Brandon's chances of making the All Star Game. I think that if the Blazers continue to win, he's still got a chance, but this certainly doesn't help his cause. What do you think, did the NBA brass want to avoid the embarassment of leaving a POM off of the All Star roster?

Total nonsense. There is still a month and a half of basketball to be played before the all-star game. What if Brandon Roy wins POM for January? Does his January POM trump Paul's December POM? And where does that leave guys like Deron Williams who haven't won POM?
What if Paul, or someone else, goes down with an injury? Every year there are players who are voted in, or selected by the coaches, who don't play due to injuries. Some of those injuries are real, but in some cases a player simply prefers to have the time off to rest and allow any nagging minor aches and pains to heal for the stretch run. Utah got two guys in last year (Williams and Okur) as injury replacements.
Point is, to declare Brandon Roy's all-star chances effectively over on January 3 because Chris Paul won December POM, is ridiculous. A lot can, and will, happen between now and the all-star game.
