Re: Would Redd be a good match for the Blazers?
Redd would make us an instant top 5 in west and give us an incredible back court. more importantly he'd fit in well with Oden next season. he's also a good character guy.
i'd do the trade.

Re: Would Redd be a good match for the Blazers?
that trade actually makes a lot of sense for both parties. my money is on them wanting Sergio--he'd put a lot of fans in the seats with his style of play, even if they would lose a lot. interesting to think about. I suspect we'd also have to give up Outlaw, which I'd have to think about.
what this really demonstrates to me more than anything else is how nicely we're positioned to help some other team do a tear-down like Seattle and Minnesota did last summer. lots of very cheap and talented youngsters with Raef's contract to make salaries match.
I really doubt we're players in 2009 free agency. I suspect that's what our GM is saying to make his young players more comfortable with their current roles.
if Pritchard announced he were looking for just such a deal as this one, it'd ruin a lot of the chemistry. every guy would be wondering if it was his head on the auction block. by talking about some far off free agency period, he's diverting the focus.
which is funny--it seems to me Pritchard is trying to set us up to do something very similar to what Trader Bob did before our title run. he watched guys like Jim Jackson, JR Rider and Kelvin Cato build in trade value as the team continued to win, then fobbed them off for more seasoned stars (Pippen and Smith). turns out he unloaded those guys at the apex of their careers, which Pritchard wouldn't necessarily be doing. but you get the idea.
I don't think we're in any big hurry to do a deal of this magnitude, though. I'm guessing a deal like that might happen next summer at the soonest, unless some fantastic bargain comes along.

Re: Would Redd be a good match for the Blazers?
there is no way to get redd without trading one of our big 4, imo. (Rudy, Roy, Oden, Aldridge) but if we did get him, he'd make a nice 5th starter.
Only way to get him without would be like Jack, Webster, Outlaw, and our first round pick, which might be worth it, but if we had to give up THAT much, i'd rather take Iguodala, and get a great defender who will do dirty work as a 5th starter at SF with Roy and Rudy at the guard spots.
I think we are fine, personally. If we are a playoff team this year... then With Oden, Rudy and time to grow together, we SHOULD have a rin within 4 years, don't ya think. And i'm not talkin' out of my ***, i really think we have a shot...

2 things wrong here...
Rudy hasnt played a minute in the NBA, and is therefore ineligible to be considered as a, "Big 4" or untouchable player. LOL
Secondly, the contracts would not match up. the only way we can get Redd is if we include Raef or Darius with some combo of these players: webster, jack, outlaw, jones, Frye, Sergio and a first round pick.
something like Raef, Jack, 1st rd pick and Webster might get the job done.

I would do that, even after tonight's win. Webster may never be consistently great. Redd is a star.

I TAKE IT BACK! Keep Martell..what he did tonight was very Redd-esque..all we need to do is run more plays for him. In all seriousness, we need to trim the roster though.

You guys are out of your minds if you want to trade for Redd. The rumors may be false but they are certainly out there about is lack of work ethic. That along with his salary, and his lack of D, what are you thinking? We already have the leading three point shooter in the NBA. What does Redd add? What has his teams done? He will make 18 million a year by the time is contract expires! Look at the big picture here. He is not worth that.

Not worth it. You jack up what this team has, you jeopordize the future in order to get 3-4 years out of Redd. If you want a consistent bomber worth more than Martell, just keep Jones. I still say it's too early to give up on anyone on this team. Wait until next year to see what we have, and if someone obviously doesn't fit, then look to make a move. Think long-term.
