The NBA should really re-think...
of how they do the All Star weekend I hate the way they do it. The coaches should pick all the players who enter the All Star game. The fans picking players is a complete joke. The fans should pick who enters the NBA All Star Festivities such as the Slam dunk contest, Three point shoot out and Skills challenge. I would love to see Roy in the Skills Challenge. That would make it fun again.

It's just my opinion. If the coaches picked all the players for the games then it would be a real all star game. Not a popularity game and thats what it is for the starting five anyway.

Re: The NBA should really re-think...
I think that's actually a pretty good idea. Honestly, I don't give a rat's *** about the All-Star game as it is, and I don't know that I'd care all that much about it if the coaches picked everyone, but at least you'd get a better indication of who the best players are in a given year. However, this year, a lot of the players picked by fans would be picked by the coaches (LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, just off the top of my head...). Having fans pick the "special event" players would be a neat idea, but I could see fans who like choosing the All-Stars feeling like they get the short end of that trade.

Who cares about the all star game? Its just a big popularity contest that Portland always gets the short end of the stick becuase of our market and it doesnt mean a thing to the regular season. Our guys are better off missing the game and getting some rest.

Re: The NBA should really re-think...
the allstar game is all about marketing and hype.
if it were up to me, i'd have a rookies/sophmores vs the d-league game.
all the festivities traditionally involve guards (dunk, 3 point, skills). there needs to be something for big men. how about choosing 4 players and 4 fans. the fan would have 10 seconds to score on the big man from the triple threat position. the winner (of the players) is determined on how far the blocked shot ball goes or something?

Re: The NBA should really re-think...
Same thing happens in every all star game. They ARE popularity contests. That's the point. It bugs me that a losing team can get two starters, one of whom hasn't even played, but it's nothing new.

Re: The NBA should really re-think...
Every All Star Weekend, I always find the least entertaining event is the All Star Game. I don't miss the Saturday events, but I often skip the Sunday one. Why don't they replace the All Star Game with a bunch of new events similar to Saturday? For example, a weight lifting contest among NBA players, swimming pool events, a spelling bee, a spitting for distance contest, a beauty contest with female judges, timed SAT competition, ice skating to music with judges holding up points cards, and my favorite, the photogenic smile contest while appearing for photographers with a handful of selected problem kids who apparently worship the guy their fathers watch on TV while they're outside playing.

Why don't they just have a farting contest to. Who can do the longest and the loudest fart.

Re: The NBA should really re-think...
I'm mostly excited to see James Jones in the 3pt contest. Brandon Roy and LA should dominate in the rookie/sophmore game as well.
But really, the all-star game doesn't matter much. It's all about winning.

Re: The NBA should really re-think...
The All Star Game is for the fans. It's a chance to for them to pick who they want to see play in the big game. It's a fan-favorite team. What's wrong with that? It IS a popularity contest. That's what it is and it's not a bad thing.
