OT: Jay Johns Fired
I haven't seen this anywhere. Did I miss this thread, or is it not that big of a deal. I personally think it's big news.

It's only big news to the 10 people who care about Oregon State basketball. And considering you pluralized the dude's last name, I'm guessing you're not one of 'em.

Re: OT: Jay Johns Fired
Oregon State basketball has indeed fallen far. It was time for him to go.
It may be big news to blazer fans as the assistant coach Dean Demopoulos has been mentioned as a possible head coach for the Beavers.

Re: OT: Jay Johns Fired
OSU gave up on Basketball a long time ago, and now they guess that they don't need to have both football and basketball programs be successful.
Plus, realistically, the basketball program hasn't been worth worrying about for close to 20 years now. Pretty pathetic considering how powerful it once was.

Re: OT: Jay Johns Fired
Oh THANK GOD!!!
But seriously, the program won't get any better until the AD starts putting some money into it. The facilities are poor (by today's standards). Still, it's a long, long way up, and the other big problem attracting talent is competitiveness. A better coach will help, but it's gonna take a lot of hard work on the part of the kids they have there now / bring in over the next couple years.

Re: OT: Jay Johns Fired
Jay John was an assistant coach with Lute Olsen for a few years.
Jay John should have been fired after the 2005-2006 season. They ended up 8th place (13-18) in the pac-10 and lost miserably to #13 UCLA in the second round.

Ryan Hollins scored a season-high 17 points and the 13th-ranked Bruins won 79-47 Thursday in the Pac-10 tournament quarterfinals.
|
The following year (06-07) the team lost 7 straight Pac-10 games from Jan 18 - Feb 8, 2007, ending the season 11-20 (3-15 pac 10).
Actually OSU has had good success in the past, producing Gary Payton and Brent Barry.

Re: OT: Jay Johns Fired
They will at least beat UW at home - Washington is not a good club and OSU should have beaten them in Seattle this weekend. The way Oregon plays on the road that game is even winnable. John shouldn't have been brought back for this season, that much is obvious. To say no one cares about Oregon State basketball is ignorance at best - the Orange Express was once the pride of this state and most of us have not forgotten.

Re: OT: Jay Johns Fired
I personally think Jay John should have been fired earlier because there were a lot of players just after that that were planning on returning the next season. They were either getting tired of losing, chemistry wasn't there, or they didn't like how the coach worked the team.
