KP: Trader Bob He's Not?
I know many of you have been discussing various trade rumors and ideas. There's been a lot of interesting discussion on the subject. Not that I'm necessarily in favor of any trades being made, but.......................
I'm kind of beginning to wonder if KP just might be a bit gun-shy when it comes to trades? I mean, for one, he's rather new to the trading game, and a deal gone awry, among other issues, could potentially hurt his seeming current golden boy status. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the Zach trade is the only one he's directly overseen, correct? Even that one didn't go without a fair amount of opposition (especially in regards to what - or didn't - came back.)
Part of me also wonders if he looks at his current creation as a souffle, rather than a cake? In other words, he's very hesitant to open the oven door and take a peek and stir things up. He'd rather just play it reeeeal safe and take it out when it's fully baked....say, summer of 2009?
Besides, since probably most feel this team has already achieved more than what had been expected this season, why take supposedly unnecessary risks, right?
Hey, just some thoughts, that's all.

Re: KP: Trader Bob He's Not?
Considering KP set a record for draft day deals in 2006 and made a few more in 2007 I don't think he's gun-shy. I actually think he is, believe it or not, honest. When he said this year was for assessment and improvement he may well have meant exactly that. When he said he would not trade potential long term success of the team's young players for short term gain like making the playoffs this year, he may well have meant exactly that.
He's telling the truth, which means Trader Bob he's not. Thank goodness.

Other than Zach and Victor, what other current players on the roster had he given up in those said deals? I can't remember.

No, KP was on board at the 2006 draft.

There's a potential difference between being on-board, and being in charge. In fact, IIRC, KP was against some of the moves Patterson had made.

Re: KP: Trader Bob He's Not?
trader bob didn't make a lot of moves, he made BIG moves involving the big contracts.
if bob was still running the show, raef lafrentz would have turned into shaq somehow last month. and miles would have turned into eddy curry.

The man has a plan, he intends to stick to it, and it's not driven by internet trade rumors.

Spot on. This is not about winning this season or next season for that matter. It's about consistently winning over the next 10 to 15 years.
I thought we got over trying to criticize KP after everything he's done to transform this team from a 21-61 team just two years ago to 28-23 now.
Making a trade just for the sake of making a trade to shake things up would be a horrible mistake. The guy's got a plan, we're not winning it all anyway this season. Judge this team next year when Oden/Rudy come in.
If this team made the playoffs this season, that would be a huge success. If this team finishes above .500, that would be a huge success.

some things have been 'widely' reported by all the blazer beat writers.
One was that KP was upset when Blake was traded for Magloire. The other prominent one was that KP wanted the Blazers to take Chris Paul in 2005 instead | |
