OT: Kobe's finger?
His doctor recommends surgery that would take him out for 6 weeks but he says he doesn't want to do it til after the Olympics. Can he do that without ruining his finger for good? This is where it's really good that they have Gasol. He could hold down the fort. Thoughts?

Re: OT: Kobe's finger?
...we are talking about a "pinkie" finger--granted, it is on his "shooting" hand and all, but I highly doubt this will effect his high level of play [even if it is damaged for the long term] Generally speaking, my "pinkie" finger does not have much influence on my basketball abilities...PLAY THROUGH THE PAIN!!!
On a side note, I was able to continue playing golf at a high level for nearly half of a year with a "boxers fracture" near my right pinkie finger...in a sense, I would even relate the "pinkie" finger to the tonsils, appendix, and/or wisdom teeth [you could easily survive without them!!!]

Re: OT: Kobe's finger?
Kobe's going to play through it, and he will be fine. He'll adjust to it and hopefully get into a rhythm early in games to set the pace. The thing is that if he sits out 6 weeks, we could very well be out of the playoff race by the time he gets back. Unlike most players, Kobe will tough it out and continue to give team a chance to win.

Re: OT: Kobe's finger?
If Kobe can't play in the all-star game, I wonder who would start for him? Would it automatically go to Nash as the next highest vote getter at guard or would it be the coach's or David Stern's decision?

Will they add Baron Davis to the bench if Nash starts?

Re: OT: Kobe's finger?
Kobe's injured finger could result in more PT for Brandon in the All-Star game. Sounds like Kobe would like to sit it out, but the league wants him to put in a cameo appearance so they don't lose his audience drawing power. Brandon Roy, All-Star MVP.

Re: OT: Kobe's finger?
I hate Kobe because he's a laker, but that guy is damn tough, and I have no doubt that he'll adjust to the injury, tough it out, and probably be only slightly diminished in production.
As for the all-star game, it would be cool to see Brandon get some more playing time and hopefully have a great showing; this team/city needs the boost after the past couple of weeks.
