ESPN Chat with Chad Ford - Trade Deadline pt 2
From Chad Ford about a half hour ago..
"They have been really trying to get a deal done ... but they really want back a big asset in return. Their willing to entertain moving anyone on their roster not named Oden, Roy or Aldridge ... and they'll even more draft picks ... but it has to be a very good player back. Thing thing I love about Kevin Pritchard is that he's so proactive ... he's trying. He's creative. I wouldn't put it past him. If every GM in the league was like Pritchard, we'd have 15 deals going down today. "
Not sure exactly who those quality players are that we want, but my guess is that the other team has pieces they are unwilling to move...Granger?

Pritchard has pursued both Harris and Granger during the past few weeks. I doubt anything will get done though.

KP won't pay for quality players. Hopefully this doesn't backfire in his face

Won't pay or can't pay? By all accounts the team is still in many ways bound by the bad deals of the past, in particular the Miles and Randolph contracts. Until they can jettison some payroll, going out and "paying" for quality players just isn't economically smart; especially when you are are only able to get 50 cents on the dollar in terms of value.

Sorry I guess I've got my head firmly up my butt today ... for some reason I was thinking about down the line how much we would have to pay a star quality player. I wasn't thinking about the bartering of equal value contracts and viewing players as commodities.
As for what KP is will ing to "pay" in terms of players for a targeted guy, we can only speculate what he's willing to give up in order to get a guy like Mike Miller or Danny Granger (assuming these are/were even legitimately available guys).

I love that KP knows we need a PG. I am also very happy nothin' happend. If we couldn't land Granger, Harris or Conley, it wasn't worth it.. (and i'm not counting the Green trade).
Waiting for the draft, to see what we got to do to get a PG will be much better.
