Re: Rumor: Green to Denver for Von Wafer
I LOVE this move.
I saw Wafer play in the summer league and he was lighting it up:
Wafer Summer League
He averaged over 24 pts in 27 minutes and shot 44% from three. I think he could really be a player.
[The game I saw was against the Knicks and he had 42 pts in 27 minutes]

Re: Rumor: Green to Denver for Von Wafer
That's funny because this morning when I heard Roy might not play and Jack will probably play sg, I thought the Blazers need another real sg, because Jack shouldn't be playing SG.
Looks like a solid move. Hopefully he gets some minutes so we can see if we have anything.

He'll come in handy for when the team pulls Roy for a few weeks to rest his ankle.

Re: Rumor: Green to Denver for Von Wafer
Some other findings:
Good: "He also finished second to LeBron James in the McDonald's All-American slam-dunk contest."
Bad (competitive?): "During a workout with the Phoenix Suns, Wafer reportedly was frustrated by the physical play from Jan Jagla, and responded by laying an intentional elbow to Jagla's nose, walked off the court, and ended the workout at that point."
"Excellent athlete with a nice outside stroke whose attitude problems at Florida State has tanked his draft stock."
Drafted by the Lakers, waived by the Lakers; waived by the Clippers.
I'm not sure why a guy that can shoot the three like that and also dunk like that didn't stick.

Maybe he can play some good defense. At 6'5 he has a better chance than Green.

Interesting Blazer connections:

Talent never has been an issue for Wafer, who has had the requisite skills to be successful on the NBA level. But he says it wasn't until he worked with Colorado 14ers coach Joe Wolf that his focus was there.

"As we were watching him and projecting this draft, we said, 'How many guys in the second round could post those numbers in the D-League?"' Nuggets vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien said. "Very compelling in Von's case is his demonstrated - not projected - ability to shoot pro 3s. So we went and picked him up. It was by design a second-round pick. We think we made a nice play."

OK - admit it; who else (besides me) had never even heard of Von Wafer until you saw this thread?

While Wafer's shooting made an impression on Karl, the Nuggets coach liked another aspect of the guard's game.
"He did two things that are NBA style: He shot the ball well and he showed speed," Karl said of the former Florida State standout whom the Nuggets signed as a free agent April 13. "His speed was impressive. He has the ability to play the game fast."
Karl believed Wafer's showing in the summer league proved he'll be more than just training camp fodder. "I thought he played very well here," Karl said. "He showed me that he's an NBA player."
Karl's sentiments were echoed by Jimmy Eyen, a veteran assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers.
"I like his talents," said Eyen, whose team signed Wafer to a 10- day contract last season before releasing him. "He definitely has an ability to shoot the ball, and he's quick and strong."

All I know about this kid is that all of the draft sites said he had attitude problems. I'm sure bouncing around and now playing for your 4th team will adjust an attitude though
