Re: Trade made: Green to Denver for Von Wafer
Kind of a ho-hum trade....
I don't think Green had a future here in POR anyway...he played well when he was down in the summer league...
I was surprised by Wafer's summer league play...nice post Reep...Maybe Pritcahrd saw something he liked there and maybe Roy's injury and more likely minutes are a concern for mgmt....and he, like Green would have been is a longshot to be here next year anyway, but unlike Green could at least provide a little depth behind Roy...
Also remember that Rudy and Koponen are on the horizon, Koponen in particular has played very well in europe according to reports...
I still think Jack ends up being dealt...
I would have liked to seen POR trade for a banger type player...who could have helped POR rebounding woes....

That would be nice, but it sounds like Jones may not be out that long afterall!

And in more long-term news, I spoke with James Jones and the sharpshooting small forward said he hoped to return sometime next week. Jones has not played since Feb. 1 because of a sore left knee, but said rest and treatment has alleviated much of the swelling and soreness and he's almost ready to return.

I agree Green was not going to be on the team next year. A taller point guard that can shoot will be a better fit next to Roy. Green IMO is neither tall or a great outside shooter.

Meet our newest addition. He's hiding somewhere in the box.
Pritchard's cake has some tasty ingredients.

Re: Trade made: Green to Denver for Von Wafer
I'm sorry to see Green go, but I don't really have much of an issue with Wafer, so long as he can keep his attitude focused on posterizing people, and lighting it up from the outside. The occasional hard foul would be ok with me too... but other than the superior talent of guys like Roy, and the budding potential of Outlaw, Aldridge, Webster, etc., the best thing this team has going for it is pretty decent chemistry. I wouldn't want someone with "borderline NBA talent" as one person put it upsetting a pretty good lockerroom (that said, the current losing streak has me realizing a feeling of "all happiness and light" in the clubhouse may not be the best thing, either...).

I'm assuming this is sarcasm.
I actually kinda smiled when I heard about his blowup... we've been whining about how soft and doughy our lineup is... maybe a kid with some fire and anger can be easily managed and actually light a fire under the buttocks of the others.

Re: Trade made: Green to Denver for Von Wafer
It just gives Portland fans and the graphical engineers to come up with more puns.
"Eat my wafer" "sugar up some wafer"
Just like what we have for Channing Frye: "You want some frys with that?" (everytime he scores)
I never heard of this guy either.

Re: Trade made: Green to Denver for Von Wafer
Wafer is a scrub who we won't see in the league after this season.
Financial reasons are what drove this lopsided aid to Denver.
A third-year pro out of Florida State, Wafer was originally selected in the second round (39th pick overall) by the L.A. Lakers in the 2005 NBA Draft. During 38 career games with the Lakers, Clippers and Nuggets, he averaged 1.2 points, 0.5 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 4.3 minutes.
Green, 21, was selected by the Trail Blazers in the second round of the 2008 NBA Draft (52nd pick overall) out of Florida.
In eight games with the Trail Blazers this season, he averaged 2.1 points, 0.5 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 5.5 minutes.
