Yea offensively he can produce. He still can't guard a SF though. That would be the next step.

Re: Celtics vs. Blazers Game Thread 2-24-08
By the way has anybody else noticed that teams are now going right after Steve Blake? Seriously, it seems every point guard he matches up against is lighting up the scoreboard on him. Looks like scouts have picked it up, and every team rolling through is attacking him.

Re: Celtics vs. Blazers Game Thread 2-24-08
i love blake, but he isn't the greatest defender. He knows that. And we know exactly what we are gonna get out of him every night, he is consistant, and imo, will make a great backup PG for this team for years to come.
He isn't big, and isn't the best at staying in front of his guy.
I think he has been a pleasant surprise for our team. He came in and beat out jack for the spot (maybe more that jack lost it though) and really did well.

he can't guard paul pierce, but no blazer ever could. otherwise outlaw's D at SF is no worse than avg, and he has the skills to get better.

Sorry got to disagree with you there on that it is only a Pierce thing. His problem is defending guys with fast foot speed on the perimeter, which is what a true small forward brings to the table. If he ends up with a Bonzi Wells type, who is pudgy and likes to post up, he does fine.

blake has been extremely INconsistent for some time now - one of the most serious problems with this losing stretch we're undergoing. the last 3 games he is 7-29. hopefully hitting a few 3's tonight will help his confidence. he had 8 assists tonight, but only 1 and 2 in the 2 prior games. and saying he isn't the greatest defender is putting it way too mildly. he's been much worse than jack lately, and jack is nothing special.

nobody in the NBA can consistently stop anyone with fast foot speed without help. outlaw is no worse than average in that respect at SF.

Travis foot speed is ok on offense because he takes long lopes forward. When it comes to back pedaling he has problems. As for your statement above about nobody can consistently stop anybody with fast foot speed, that is pure bull crap. There are many small forwards who can stay in front of their guy, push them to the baseline, or push them to the help. There is a big difference between that, and being flat out embarassed as I have noticed happening to Travis many times over the last week. Travis strength defensively is his length and weak side defense, where he picks up a few blocks. Please note, I am not blaming Travis for losses, I am just pointing out that probably the one reason he hasn't won a starting job out right is the problems he has defending perimeter players.

Great. Since we are apparently able to criticize the IQ of people, let me add that appearances can be deceiving. The mod in your rear view mirror is closer than he appears..
Mods, did that cross a line, or can we only allowed to insult/smear people by their real names?
Yes, that crossed the line. You are allowed to say bad things about players and other public figures, but not posters.

there are no small forwards in the NBA who can consistently keep quick perimeter players in front of them without help. not sure what reality you are living in where there are "many".
as for directional pushing that's more a matter of coaching and preparation than defensive ability.

I see that your location is "PDX". So I assume that you probably have Comcast and are able to watch any game you want as a result. Where as some of us are lucky when they decide to broadcast a game on KGW or a national network.
I apologize if I'm being presumptuous.
