TJ Ford anyone?
The guy a very good PG who has had some big health concerns allowing Calderon to blossom. But now, the Raps have Two near elite PG's on their team and are looking at having to give Calderon a big contract. From everything I read, raps really want to keep Calderon more than Ford although they like both. But, are they really going to want to keep both and pay a backup (either one) 8+ mil a year?
The big risk with Ford will be his health, but he seems to have come back very well. Also, it is the fact that he has issues that would allow the Blazers to grab Ford without giving up Roy, Oden or Aldridge. The other problem with Ford is that although he is one hell of a scorer, he is terrible from behind the arc. But would slash very well with Roy dishing to him or him dishing to others. Also, he is a good, but not great defender, mostly due to his size, but his speed is crazy good and he has good defensive fundamentals.
One thing to note is that Ford is BYC, so no trade could happen until June 30th, and because of that, deals on the trade machine don't work, you have to eyeball it. What exactly they would want, I am not sure, it may have to be a 3 team deal. But, here is some stuff I was thinking.
The Raps would still need a BU PG for Calderon, so one piece that they might want would either be Jack or Blake (or sergio, but I doubt that). They also lack a tough guy down low to play next to Bosh at times, so they might want Przybilla. So a trade of Ford for Joel, Jack and our first might be a good package for them.
With Moon I don't see them being that interested in Outlaw and with Kapono I don't think they would want Webster. But I think a 3 team deal might work with some team that really wants Outlaw. But I think the trade I made above with Joel/jack/pick would work for both teams, but the Blazers would really miss Joel in the short run while Oden is adjusting. Any ideas?

I am actually not sure if the risk is too high, but I think it is very interesting with tons of potential. I don't think I would give up Outlaw for Ford because the risk/reward is too high, but something like I mentioned about, Joel/Jack/Pick might be worth the risk. I would really have to lose Joel and also the pick, but you need to give to get. And I think the Blazers should be able to pick up a Joel level player for around the MLE.

It is an interesting idea although I still would like to go after Harris or draft OJ Mayo.

Absolutely not. The guy is a fall away from retiring and possibly not walking again. His injury is serious. A risk not worth taking.

I love draft time, but I wonder how worth it is now since we are already so friggen young. OJ Mayo/Bayless/augustine/Lawson/Westbrook will all most likely take a couple years to get to the level of play Ford is already at, if they ever get there. Just check out this roster:
Ford/Blake/Sergio
Roy/Fernandez
Jones/Webster/Outlaw
Aldridge/Outlaw/Mcbob
Oden/Frye/Raef
Then you still have the MLE to get another bruiser, several second round pick. Miles and Wafer were left off.
Just think about Oden swatting the ball, Ford picking it up while LMA or Outlaw ran down for the dunk.

Re: TJ Ford anyone?
can I have the list of PG's that miss games in the year? I think D.Will in Utah is the only one that has started every game. With the bigs you have, Tj wouldn't have to drive as much. I'm sure Aldridge would like it.....

Re: TJ Ford anyone?
We need Joel badly. Oden will not stay on the floor next year due to foul trouble. But he and joel using up 11 fouls.....I love that scenario. I would gamble for Ford if it was Jack and our pick, but not Joel, Webster or TO.

Re: TJ Ford anyone?
I'm sure this would work out just as well as the last time we got a super-fast sub-six-foot PG off the Raptors.
And this doesn't make me leap at the chance.
But that said, I actually gave this some thought a while back (my mighty brain can turn to trivial matters once in a while) and found that because of Ford's BYC status, it's pretty tough to get him. The best I could do (using RealGM, because ESPN's Trade Machine won't let you include some people) was this:
Portland gives up:
Martell, Jack, Raef
gets:
Ford, Kapono, Humphries and Joey Graham
(I figured that Toronto would not be sorry to part with Kapono, as he's got a three year contract and isn't getting minutes, and the other two were throw-ins)

The BYC status is up in June, so it will be much easier to make a trade then.
I would consider the trade you listed, but really aren't sure about it from either side. Kind of weird.

toronto would do back flip if they could get outlaw. outlaw is what toronto could only hope moon turns into. outlaw is already better AND he's younger.
i'd love a healthy ford, and would most likely trade outlaw to get him, but not with his injury history. too much risk.

Re: TJ Ford anyone?
I would not be opposed to Ford if the price is right, and including Outlaw isnt the right price.
I would almost rather go all out and roll the dice to trade up using alot of assests than get Ford though. He isnt exactly ideal. He dominates the ball a bit too much and since we use Roy as the half court playmaker, Ford would be forced to move w/o the ball(Something he isnt that good at or comfterable doing).
We need a guy like Derek Fisher. Look at the LAL backcourt. They have complimentary guys(Fisher, Farmar) at PG who play tenacious D, can hit the 3 and move extremley well w/o the ball. This is because, like Roy, Kobe instigates the half court offense most of the time. We need a player in that mold more than | |
