Is Rose really that good?
Aside from all the hype around him, I'm just not seeing that he would be that good of an addition to this team.
4 assists and 3 TO/game is not very solid. He also shoots 33% from the college three. I've watched him play a couple times and just don't see how he is so much better than Bayless (who I think is rated too high also), Mayo, Westbrook and Gordon.
Rose had 19 pts, 1 TO and 0 (big zero) assists in his last game.
I wouldn't mind trading up for a guard, but Rose is lower on my list. Currently:
Gordon
Mayo
Bayless
Rose/Westbrook
Flame away.

Re: Is Rose really that good?
I've only watched him play a few times, so my sample is pretty slim, but I didn't see anything that blew me out of the water ... except that he is very quick and does have a very good handle.
I'm still waiting for the tournament, so I can see where the cream rises for this draft class.

DING DING DING.
We have a winner.
That's exactly how I knew that B-Roy was going to be the best pick for the Blazers.

I was thinking about posting a similar thread. Except, I don't see those below him as that good either. I really think this is a bad draft class. Sure, they are all freshman and should improve, but I don't see Rose, May or Westbrook as turning into much in the NBA. I think Blayless and Gordon both show more promise, especially for the Blazers, with Bayless leaning more towards the true PG side of things and Gordon being a good match next to Roy as a part time PG.
Solving the PG spot via the draft:
1) Bayless
2) Gordon
3) O.J. Mayo
Solving the PG spot via trade:
1) Harris - I don't know if he will be available, but if he is he would be a good match
2) Andre Miller - With Louis Williams coming on, Miller may be obtainable, but not cheap.
3) Ford - I don't see Calderon as being available so his BU should be on the block. But, very risky and does not really match well with Roy
That's not a lot of good options.
I was looking over the draft and at PG's that may be available via trade, and to tell the truth, I just don't see who is going to be obtainable AND vastly improve our starting PG spot.

Re: Is Rose really that good?
No doubt that the tournament will show who can excel, but there is something to be said for consistancy as well. Otherwise you end up taking Tyrus Thomas over Roy and Gay. Most of the Florida guys where drafted too high because they stepped up on the tournament. Even if Rose does have a good March, I'm still leary that he is no better than a handful of other guards that could be taken much later in the draft.

Brewer was taken too high, but I think Horford, Noah and Green were drafted about where they should have been. Time will tell, but I think they were drafted about right.
But I will agree that this does happen sometimes.

Yeah, Horford was correct. I would still argue that Noah was too high, like Brewer. However, Noah didn't have the same impact on his final year as the year before, when he was projected top three. I guess that is my point.

Re: Is Rose really that good?
Yea its funny but I was just saying a few weeks ago that I have seen Rose play 3 times and he hasn't impressed me once yet. I too am waiting for the tournament, to see how he does against the best competition.

Re: Is Rose really that good?
Frankly, the only collegians who have impressed me so far as NBA starter material are Beasley and Gordon. Otherwise.... meh.

Agreed. Bayless has had some solid games, but also some unimpressive ones.

Re: Is Rose really that good?
I don't think you can resolve our PG issue via this years draft. PG take the longest to develop and though I think there are some decent prospects in this draft, none of them will be a quality pg by 2010, much less next year. We need a sure thing at pg, since that is one of, if not the, most important position on the floor in today's nba.

Re: Is Rose really that good?
Rose would easily be my pick right now. Once the tourney and pre draft workouts start that could change. The guy I know I don't want is Beasley.

Funny, cause that's the only guy I really want. Well, I also want Eric Gordon. Bayless sounds good, but I have not seen him play enough to really make a fair call.

I have only seen Beasley play once, and only for about a half. I kind of judged that one reason he was scoring so much was because the rest of his team isn't worth a damn. That kind of scared me. Another thing is he kind of reminded me of Corliss Williamson, who was able to dominate in college, but 6'6" power forwards generally don't do to well in the NBA.
