There was a time when there was no foul out rule. The game was terrible. Players would foul all the time so their team could get the ball back quicker.

Being able to call timeouts is so important for coaches. I think the game would get sloppy.

Other folks have already expanded on the other changes, I don't really have anything to add.

There are only 2 rule changes I'd like to see:

Offensive Rebounds give you a 14 second shot clock, not a full 24. I think it would help speed things up. Plus you don't need an extra 10 seconds because you've already got the ball in the front court.

I'd also like to see the 3 point line get removed. I think it's hurt the game more then it's helped it at this point.

Does anyone else ever feel that NBA games have become nothing but free throw contests? What a bore.

I would figure out a way to eliminate all free throws except in the last two minutes. It is sort of like getting rid of almost all jump balls.

I don't think we need rule changes - we need enforcement changes. The superstar treatment has got to go, the "oh, wait a minute, how many fouls does he have? then the foul's on the other guy" stuff is also ridiculous. Refs should be fined if they called technical fouls after baiting coaches or players into them.

Bottom line: the rules aren't the problem, the refs are.

actuall there should be unified rules ala FIFA the game: soccer. The CEO of the EuroLeague and Stern had decusions about unifying the rules, I think the time is right.

Mix the rules:

1. NBA three point line
2. EURO sized court iirc they are bigger
3. Key halfway between the Euro trapaziod and the nba retangle
4. NBA Quarters
5. Taking the ball off the rim but still have goal tending


those are the big ones
