And probably Dallas too
But the Lakers never think twice about these teams. That cracks me up.

That says it pretty well -- it's not really a rivalry unless the teams in question regularly are knocking each out of the top spot. E_blazer1's right that the Blazers and Lakers came close to that in the 90s and 2000, but in the end, (and much as I hate to say it) the Lakers pretty well owned the Blazers whenever push came to shove.
A proper rivalry between these two teams might actually surface in the coming years, likely with the Jazz and Hornets also being involved.

It's in the Oregonian Handbook that Californians are Public Enemy #1.
And for proof of why, go visit some of the new housing developments in Beaverton and Hillsboro.

Mean while, every other team in the west has been perceived as the blue collar team, and Portland has certainly been the epitomy of a blue collar team. In a word, ARROGANCE.

Wow...first of all what team really wasn't blue collar in the 70's and earlier? Sure there were great players that could make flashy plays but the NBA but nobody demanded the spotlight. Dr. Buss, owner of the Lakers, introduced the Laker Girls in the early 80's and later created the TV station "Prime Ticket" so all the games could be shown and celebrities would think it is the cool place to be. You would call that arrogant, Ill call it very smart business that the ENTIRE NBA benefited from.
Two more things:
1. The post you called arrogant isnt...its the truth whether you believe it or not
2. I find it funny that you can replace the word "arrogant" with "championships" and your post would make more sense.
Its all good

And I find it funny that what you just wrote is extremely arrogant, thus proving the other posters point.

Oh give me a break....is it not true??? Whenever the Lakers flourished just happens to be when that poster hated them the most. Im willing to bet POR players were saying some "arrogant" stuff when they were taking the Lakers to seven games...

Arrogance isn't the absence of truth, it's the way you say it. Someone as obviously gifted with intellect as yourself should know that.

Re: Why is POR vs. LAL a rivalry?
up until 5 years ago, both of us had great teams for years. the blazers made it to the playoffs 20 something years in a row, something the lakers cant claim. both of us in the playoffs every year led to alot of postseason matchups, and bad blood betwixt the players. you guys got the best of us on a regular basis, and thats why i hate the lakers.
i do think kobe is the best in the nba, so it means even more, and i will always take gratification in beating the lakers.
