I didn't do any research before this thread so I could be totally forgetting about something big.
Why do you consider it a rivalry besides the hate? Im looking forward to some great answers...

In truth, it isn't really a rivalry.
How many times have the Blazers knocked the Lakers out of the playoffs?
How many times have the Lakers kocked the Blazers out of the playoffs?
So, it isn't a rivalry so much as the Blazers fans seething hatred for those many Laker iterations that have twarted their goals. And by association most everything about the Lakers and their hometown.
I hope, fervently, and will all my crazed fan heart, that history is about to change, and that Lakers fans will come to dread all things TrailBlazer and all things Oregon. They must have pain and humiliation. That is only just and right.

Re: Why is POR vs. LAL a rivalry?
Funny how no Laker fan remembers the playoff series in '92. Remember? The year of the riots? One game had to be played in Las Vegas. I think it was in that one that the Blazers' pre-game layup drill turned into a dunkfest. (That was when we had Robert Pack, so even our 12th man could throw it down.)
But, if we're honest, it isn't a rivalry to the Lakers. Let's hope in a couple of years it won't be a rivalry again - because we'll have, to quote Raja Bell quoting Kobe "bigger fish to fry".

Re: Why is POR vs. LAL a rivalry?
There were two reasons why I started coming to the POR forum.
#1. "Kobe Watch"..when all that junk was going on I thought POR had the most players that I would have been interested in. I know I was dreaming and if Kobe had got traded there was no chance in hell it would have been to POR.
#2. The very near future threat to my beloved Lakers. You guys are stacked with very quality young players (duh). Honestly I was more scared when Oden went out for the year and thought that would lead to another top 3 pick in the draft. I was actually a little relieved when you guys went on your winning streak to kill a realistic chance at a high pick. Im really on the fence (right now)on my opinions about the future of the team.

Re: Why is POR vs. LAL a rivalry?
1. Oregonians hate California(ns).
2. What Kobe did in Colorado.
3. Shaq's comments on Sabonis.
4. Rick Fox.
5. Phil Jackson sitting on his throne.
6. Los Angeles.
7. Everyone not living in California could easily see the preferential treatment the Lakers got from the league during their three-peat.
8. Kobe on Bynum.
9. Rick Fox.
Who couldn't hate the Lakers?

That should give you some insight on the Fox thing. He did this sort of crap every game. Gotta love Dunleavy and Wheels talkin' **** right there.

Re: Why is POR vs. LAL a rivalry?
Rick Fox ranks right up there with the ultimate jerks from the Lakers. He was a slime ball and cheap shot artist.
He was trying to take out Pippen in that Game 6, and tried getting him suspended for Game 7 by coaxing him into retaliating. Good thing Pippen just left him alone.
Seeing Dunleavy talk trash to Fox was beautiful. I loved it and Wheels in the background pointing fingers. Those were the days...

Sometime he'll be at Lakers games and they will interview him. He totally admits that he would suck in the NBA if he had to play with the D rules now(no hand checking).
I was trying to think of reasons I would have hated the Blazers...The only one I could recall was thinking the owner was trying to "buy" a championship (i know, ironic) in 2000 (i think thats the year). I didnt really pay attention to the Salary Cap back then, did you guys have the top salary? It would be my luck that it was probably the Lakers...

Re: Why is POR vs. LAL a rivalry?
I will be happy when Oden is healthy and the Blazers are challenging for Western Conference supremacy. My fondness memories of this league are when Utah, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Portland were the four best teams in the West. Next year will be fun.

Uh no...Shaq was an enforcer just by size. He wasnt gonna be the one getting in peoples faces because that just wouldnt be fair. Except for a few exceptions Shaq was the guy breaking people up in a heated situation. Rick Fox was like the guy in hockey who goes in there just to play hard nosed D... and fight.
I would agree that if I was on your side I would hate Fox too. He is one of those type of players.
