This is an interesting read. Thanks for starting the discussion DaRizzle. I personally don't understand how people view teams as constant rivals, though I'm starting to at least understand where they are coming from. However, I view certain years teams as rivals (ie 2000 Lakers/Blazers), but not the team as a whole (since in my opinion a rivalry requires the teams to actually be a threat, and for the past few years at least, Portland haven't been, and for some of those years the Lakers weren't particularly relevant either). It is fairly amazing just how many times the teams have met in the playoffs.

That being said, I certainly do think the next few years has a chance to spark a rivalry as both teams seem to have some very good talent that could stay together for a good long time. Of course, the same could be said about both Utah and New Orleans. It's a good time to be a fan of any of those teams.

Roger Murdock: But just remember, my name is ROGER MURDOCK. I'm an airline pilot.

Joey: I think you're the greatest, but my dad says you don't work hard enough on defense. And he says that lots of times, you don't even run down court. And that you don't really try... except during the playoffs.

Roger Murdock: The hell I don't. LISTEN KID. I've been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I'm out there busting my buns every night. Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes.

Not a rip on Walton, but still funny.

I was at the MLB All-Star weekend in Seattle in 2001. Fox and his then wife Vanessa Williams were a part of the celebrity softball game. When Fox was introduced, he was roundly booed. The announcer said something like "come on, Rick came all the way to Seattle to be a part of this", and when he was done everyone booed even louder.

What a great memory.
