Dear NateBishop3
Everyone has their 15 minutes of fame, well, this is yours, apparently. The story of Oden's pick-up game is on the front pages of Yahoo.com and CNN.com. I'm surprised no one in the sports journalism community has tracked you down and asked for an interview, or have they?

Re: Dear NateBishop3
He has been on the radio locally, I haven't heard of anything nationally. I doubt that Dan Patrick is going to call him up, maybe Colin Cowherd might since he is from the Northwest.

What are you talking about? Nate's already famous. Out in the world you say Nate Bishop and folks are like "You mean the hoops hype writer guy?"

Re: Dear NateBishop3
It's really not that big of a story. Nobody has tracked me down or asked for an interview, mostly because I don't think they feel there's much else to say.
Either way, the whole thing is bizarre.

If it were not for the town-crier, it would not have been an issue.

Re: Dear NateBishop3
Question: Do we know how the information got back to the Trailblazers? I know that they read this board, but do we know if someone from the Oregonian read it, thought it news worthy, questioned the Trailblazers who then questioned Oden? I never doubted NateBishop3 on his account, but I find it interesting Blazer Management would react on a single thread posted here.
NateBishop3 - Oregonian writer needing a story - Publication - Blazer Management - Coach - Oden.
Does that sound about right? Maybe they called Blazer Management prior to publication?
When the story broke did the Oregonian site where the rumor came from or did they just say internet rumor?

So Nate pointing it out that he saw him playing is now the same as being the "town crier"?
Way to blow things just a weee bit out of proportion here folks.

Sometimes I think that the more people openly ***** about it on here, the more they want the people in the organization to notice it and "know" that not everyone is as "choir boyish" about things.
Which is funny since I really doubt that the organization would appreciate basically being called a slave owner and that they overreacted and should've let Greg do whatever the hell he wants. Cause you know, he's 19.
But hey, if they can make it so the organization knows that they are blaming Nate Bishop for being a town crier, and someone who is just trying to make a name for himself, it'll be a successful straw man and change what the issue is.
Well done.

I thought he was talking about the Oregonian. Maybe I was wrong.
Either way, I don't really care if some people think what I did was wrong. I wasn't seeking notoriety or fame, I just figured you guys would want to hear about how Oden looked on the court for the first time since his surgery. I could have just as easily written an article and published it on Hoopsworld if I had wanted to.
I walked away from sports journalism two years ago and I haven't looked back. It ruined sports for me and I have zero interest in covering the team again. Sometimes I miss talking to the players, but that's about it. I just finally have been able to start watching the team again as a fan this season. Sports writing isn't all it's cracked up to be folks. There's a reason why guys like Jason Quick and John Canzano are so jaded and bitter all the time. They don't love sports anymore. It's a job to them. I realized that was starting to happen to me and I put a stop to it.

Re: Dear NateBishop3
This is obviously not Nate's fault. I think its actually pretty awesome that he let us know he saw Greg and that Greg looked good.
Congratulations on the fame Nate!
I do feel bad for Greg though. While i know it was not your intention to get him in trouble, it still sucks he did. I really hope he is happy here in Portland. He is really loved here, and we are sticking with him always, even if he got hurt for his rookie year. You don't hear many "Should have picked Durant" from Portland fans.
Greg if you read this, don't worry. You are a big deal here in Portland, man. Keep your head up.

Not quite. From wikipedia: "A town crier is a person who is employed by a town council to make public announcements in the streets". It looks like hes the crier and the blazers are the town council.
