DraftExpress.com has the Blazers...
takeing Chase Budinger at number 13. I didn't think he was comeing out this year? I like Mayo and Westbrook but I think he might be gone especially if UCLA goes on to win the whole thing.

Westbrook is being overrated. He'll be a late teen pick if he comes out IMO.

No, Draft Express doesn't have the Blazers taking Budinger at 13, they have Budinger going at 13, which also happens to be the Blazers' current draft position. As happens every year, none of the draft sites have taken into account team needs yet, and won't until after the lottery.
If you intended for the thread to be a discussion of Budinger as a prospect, I hate him. He'll be athletically average in the NBA and is only good at coming off screens and making some shots, which he'll have a much harder time doing against bigger and faster opponents.

Re: DraftExpress.com has the Blazers...
It always amazes me when people think these draft sites take anything into the equation regarding team needs. If you want to look at them to see how they rank players without anything else taken into account, it's a great tool. If you're looking there to see who they think your team might draft, you're in the wrong place.
It's more or less a ranking of the players superimposed over the likely draft order based on current NBA records.

How many current Blazers can dunk from behind the free throw line? I saw CB do it as a HS Senior. IMO dude is top shelf athletically.

Yeah, but can he run Nate's pick-and-pop offense and shoot contested 18 foot jumpshots? If not, we don't want him on this team.

I wasn't arguing in favor of drafting Chase, more just disputing facts I see as wrong. Budinger does have an effective spot up jumper but I think he might not be big enough to play the 3 in the league.
With a legit low post threat next year who will command double teams, I think the perimeter is going to be a lot less contested for everyone though.

I may have to make a mental note of that one. I think he's a late bloomer and a rising star and he won't be available when we pick.
The kid has great work ethic. He shoots 800 jump shots a day. He's a lockdown defender. He's athletic. He can play the 1 or 2. I think a team with a top 10 pick will fall in love with him and pick him, especially if Bayless stays out of the draft.
Now...does he DESERVE to go top 10? Maybe not.

Re: DraftExpress.com has the Blazers...
^I'm with ya. He is also GREAT in the open floor. All those characteristics are somethin' that we really need. Add the fact that he isn't selfish one bit.
If Mayo and Bayless don't come out though, damn... that is really gonna hurt. We might have to move up to get the player we want anyway thouhg.
Should be really interesting.

Re: DraftExpress.com has the Blazers...
I'd be happy if the blazers somehow landed westbrook at their likely position in the draft ... I wouldn't even object if they made some kind of move (combinng some second rounders with our #13 pick) to grab him at the 8-10 spot; he won't be an instant impact player, but with his defensive instincts, ability to finish at the rim and "upside" he might be a worthy get assuming Jack is gone.
CB ... that's hard to say. The knock on him is that he hasn't really met the potential people saw in him, or at least he hasn't dominated the way people hoped he would.

Re: DraftExpress.com has the Blazers...
I'm not sure how good Budinger ever will be but he is very athletic. I think the best case scenario is Dan Marjle (sp?), before the injuries. I'd take someone like that at 13.

Actually that is what he does best. Not sure I want him, but the dude can shoot.

I just dont like Chase. I have seen him play 20+ times, but only on the rarest of occasions have I seen even a glimpse of passion out of the kid.
