Re: SI Oden Article
I love how he's still trying to play off that pickup game. One or two dunks? Right....

Thanks for posting this.
It raises a good point- HOW did Oden hurt himself? We still don't know that. Makes me worried that it could happen again.

Yes, because it is hard to fathom how such a big, tall, heavy man who jumps so high, and comes slamming back down, over and over again, could possibly injure any part of his leg.
How did he hurt himself? I suspect gravity.
Could it happen again? Yep.
Will Oden sustain injuries in the future? Yep. All NBA players do.

Re: SI Oden Article
Smart alleck responses aside, some players are much more injury prone than others, i.e. Jermaine O'Neal. Oden's track record is quite poor in that regard, so it's a very legitimate concern that the cause of the injury is unknown.

Which "track record" might that be?

Re: SI Oden Article
Great article. I love how Oden is turning out, and I can't wait to see him play.
This quote had me scratching my head, however:
Quote:
|
"He's got very soft hands, a very soft touch,'' Townsend said. "You can throw it to him and he can catch it. Not many guys his size can do that.''
|
Not many big guys can catch the ball? How in the hell do they ever put it through the hoop, then?? It doesn't just materialize in their hands.

Re: SI Oden Article
I'm not sure if you're being serious or facetious, but most bigs in the league have poor hands. Hell, Joel P. has bad hands.
Obviously they catch it whenever they score, but certain players have fantastic hands and it absolutely is a positive attribute in a big guy. They don't have to lose position down on the block when gathering the ball, penetrating guards have more faith in making an extra pass, et al.

Exactly. And that means that most big men in the NBA CAN catch the ball when you throw it to them, which is just the opposite of what Townsend is saying.

Re: SI Oden Article
Having good hands is a plus for being a big guy. I can't count how many times the ball is thrown in to Joel and he can't catch it.
