Re: I'm going to get crucified for saying this ...
If we packaged him to get a starting PG or SF that would clearly be an upgrade to what we have now, I would seriously consider it.
I think you need to consider anything to make your team better. If that means trading Joel, then yeah, I would. But I would also be very happy having him come back next year!

Re: I'm going to get crucified for saying this ...
Whether or not we trade Joel for a good point guard would really come down to the specific trade. I certainly wouldn't be shopping Joel for a point guard. But if we're in negotiations for a guy we think can be THE point guard for our long championship run and the other team wants Joel you've gotta consider it.
Let's say, for example, we're talking to the Nets about Devin Harris and we offer them Frye, Webster and Jack. If they counter with Joel, Webster and Jack I'm not gonna hang up on them.

Re: I'm going to get crucified for saying this ...
If I could package Reaf's contract with our highest paid player who will have a limited role off the bench, in return for a quality starter in this league, I would be crazy to not do it. Joel is a great guy, and will be nice to have off the bench. However, I would rather use his 7 million in the FA market along with the space Miles is giving us to get a top notch starter. We can find another backup center for way cheaper who will do 80% of what Joel does and it won't cost us because IMO he'll be lucky to get 20mpg.

Re: I'm going to get crucified for saying this ...
Why do fans always jump to conclusion after a few good games by a player? Channing Frye is not a center. He tends to commit stupid fouls. Yes, he is an excellent shooter for a big man. So he has been rebounding well for a few games, but that doesn't erase the lack of defensive rebounds for the majority of the season when he was in the game. The Blazers got dominated by teams with big men when Joel was in foul trouble. Look at the two games against Shaq and the Hornets.
Don't judge Frye on a few good games against small teams like Memphis and Dallas.

In that case the title would have read: "I've been drinking paint thinner all night long and I've decided ..."

Re: I'm going to get crucified for saying this ...
Certainly, Przybilla is not untouchable, but I think Portland has other assets it can use in trade that are less well-suited to this team. I'd rather keep Przybilla and Frye as tremendous backups to Oden and Aldridge and, instead, use Outlaw, Rodriguez, Webster, Jack and (depending on the trade target) Fernandez and the first round draft pick. I think combinations of those assets could bring back a pretty good player.
Right now, I'd like to keep Fernandez and aim for finding decent starters for the point guard and small forward positions, providing a depth chart like this:
PG: PTBNL / Steve Blake
SG: Brandon Roy / Rudy Fernandez
SF: PTBNL / James Jones
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Channing Frye
C: Greg Oden / Joel Przybilla
That's almost a (poor) starting five as the second unit. And the second unit is balanced. Scoring from Fernandez, Frye and Jones, defense and rebounding in the middle, passing from Blake and Fernandez. And all of them (with the possible exception of Fernandez) are role-players, so they can fit in with virtually any combination of players and not be disruptive.
Przybilla is an important part of that vision, to me. So I'd keep him unless an offer too good to turn down comes along.

Re: I'm going to get crucified for saying this ...
Three Blazers are off limits for all practical purposes.
Roy, Oden and Aldridge
After that, all players should be on the table to improve our PG and SF spots. But this does not mean they should be jettisoned for the sake of trades. But here is a list in order of most important for the Blazers to keep to least important.
Most important to keep
Travis Outlaw
Rudy Fernandez
Joel Przybilla
Steve Blake
Martell Webster
Channing Frye
James Jones
Jarrett Jack
Sergio Rodriguez
Josh McRoberts
Raef LaFrentz
Joel is near the top and I would love to have him back, but a quality young starting PG is more important than a BU center. We have to remember that we are building for the future, and even if we are a little thin at center for a year while Oden assimilates, thats not the worst thing since Oden will most likely be the guy playing 40mpg in his second season. Then what does Joel really help. But a quality starting PG would like Harris or Calderon (if they could be had) would also be getting 35-40 mpg. Our starting 5 would be solid with only SF in question, and Outlaw and/or Webster will most likely be able to hold down the fort in that spot.

Number one reason why we should keep Joel? Exhibit A: tonight's game. The Phoenix scrubs had a field day inside with Frye and Aldridge.

Re: I'm going to get crucified for saying this ...
We should only trade Joel if we keep our draft pick and get a big man like DeAndre Jordan, Robin Lopez or Hibbert.
Frye is a great guy, but he needs to be playing backup to LMA if he's still around next year.
