I keep seeing people talk about the Lakers...
as a rivalry to the Blazers? I don't like the Lakers but I also don't hate the Lakers. Roy is my favorite NBA player to watch. I also like watching Kobe play basketball even though I don't like him. Hasen't ths rivalry ended yet? What makes the Lakers a rivalry to the Blazers still?

Re: I keep seeing people talk about the Lakers...
Well, at the moment I dont see the lakers as that big of a rivalry anymore, but in the past it was huge, second only to maybe Utah. But, I think with the Blazers resurgence and Oden vs Bynum, the rivalry will heat up again, and soon it will be one of the best in the NBA.

One of the best in the NBA? Purhaps but it will be hard to beat the Boston vs. Lakers rivalry. That is probably the best rivalry in NBA history.

Re: I keep seeing people talk about the Lakers...
Let me get one thing straight in this thread: When you become a Blazer fan, you also accept that The Los Angeles Lakers are Public Enemy #1, and they always have a target on their back. You are required to root against them at every opportunity, even when the game has no bearing on the Blazers. You are required to hate their players, although there have been some extenuating circumstances that allows a player to have donned the bruise & urine uniforms and not be forever loathed by Blazer fans (Jerome Kersey, Kermit Washington, Mychal Thompson... there have been a few others). You are required to hate and berate any person that shows up in the Rose Garden wearing a Lakers jersey and is acting like the idiotic, overbearing bandwaggonning fans that we all know they are. You are required to show quiet decorum and not act like an idiot when the Blazers are winning, in sharp contrast to the insufferable sense of entitlement that all Laker fans harbor.
In short, you are required to hate anything that has to do with the Los Angeles Lakers as a condition of being a Portland TrailBlazer fan. It's in the contract, look it up. If you deviate from these terms, expect legal action, or to be dragged into the alleyway behind Mary's Club downtown and beaten.

Re: I keep seeing people talk about the Lakers...
I love hating the Lakers, but I am sick of every time someone says they like Kobe or don't hate the Lakers that they are told they can't really be Blazer fans. it's crap. Like it or not, Kobe is the best player in the NBA right now and the second best In 20+ years and I understand how people can enjoy watching how skillful and how much of an assassin he is. I love watching it but get my joy from his misses, but as a basketball fan you have to admit that the guy is incredible.

Re: I keep seeing people talk about the Lakers...
I wouldn't really say it's a rivalry right now; maybe back during the 99-00 and 00-01 seasons, but that's about it. It has the potential to become huge again with the whole Bynum/Oden match-up, as well as Kobe/Roy and now maybe even Aldridge/Odom.

I agree everyone likes to watch players they don't like have crappy games. As good as Kobe is it makes it that much more enjoyable when he has an off night. I guess if the Lakers go on to win the championship though it will be becouse of the refs.

That perfectly sums up the requirements and feelings to be a "correct" Blazers fan. Well said.
