Pretty cool that Kobe mentioned Nate in his interview.
Cool stat too.

Re: Evidence that Nate is a really good coach
I think as time goes on and talent rolls in, it will become more apparent he can coach. Some of the previous seasons, he had a pretty gimp lineup to deal with.

Re: Evidence that Nate is a really good coach
Apparently, his time out strategy is to clear out the middle and give the ball to Brandon Roy. Brilliant!
That's a cool stat. And without trying to research it, I'll bet it's the opposite of the Cheeks years.

Re: Evidence that Nate is a really good coach
I have been waiting to see how Nate does with a good lineup--the next two seasons will tell us if Nate's the guy to get us a championship. If the players continue to believe in Nate then I think he could be the coach.

Re: Evidence that Nate is a really good coach
Great find, meru! This team has some really special elements about it, and Nate seems to be one of them.

That was my first thought as well. Without question, Mo's biggest weakness as a coach was getting something out of his team after a timeout. It was pitiful. Nothing ever worked.

Re: Evidence that Nate is a really good coach
That was a pretty cool article. I think that Nate has some real good qualities and he also seems to be improving on his weaknesses. It seems to me that this stat directly correlates to focus in practices. Nate has made timeout execution an important part of his practices and the results are evident. But I don't think this actually means that he is a strong game time coach. I think he really needs to work on adjusting strategy midgame and ride hot players better. The good news is that Nate does seem to be improving in those areas, and hopefully will his his stride as the team hits theirs.

Re: Evidence that Nate is a really good coach
I would like to know what the hell someone who posts on this website is doing reading the Wall Steet Journal! No seriously great article and video. Nate is very well respected by most players. Most fans on the other hand........don't know sh^& about coaching.

Since no one actually did speak of me I can only assume you think I am a good coach too.........Thank you
The team always does well out of timeouts. If you really look at the plays they run it is usually a clearout for Brandon Roy. Great offensive minds have searched the world for such an inovative offense. Good for Nate for discovering it.

Given its achievements in this area, it's slightly surprising that Portland didn't make the playoffs. The nine other teams in the top 10 in post-timeout performance all did. The past four NBA champions have all ranked in the top 10 in this category, too.
|
Does this mean he sucks before timeouts and after the second possession of each said timeout?

Re: Evidence that Nate is a really good coach
it does bode well for Nate.
but how much of it is just our team's youth? I suspect timeouts are more effective at gathering the focus and thinking of a very young, very talented group of players.
